Chapter 1

He has lived within his dark world. He was rich, fame swallowed him, women desire him, Kwon Ji Yong was the envy of many yet something seems to be incomplete. He’s parents died in an airplane accident during a vacation in Spain leaving the then 7 year old Kwon Ji Yong in his uncle’s care. His uncle was never family man and was always busy with their own multi-national company so he practically gave Ji Yong a lonely and sad childhood. When the other kids played with their parents in amusement parks and happy Sunday strolls in the park Ji Yong spent his childhood in his uncle’s office being trained to be a gentleman. After graduating from business school at 21 he immediately established a name in his late father’s company, impressing international investors and colleagues. He was always in the news due to his accomplishments, high-end personality connections, VIP parties and amazingly good looks. His relationships never last for a month. He only flirted with women until he got bored with them. At work he was a perfectionist and had a cold attitude towards his staff. Thus, he was named G-Dragon, the stunning beast that breathes flame killing those who get in its way.

“What kind of report is this? How should I describe it? Garbage, trash, a useless piece of crap,” The “Dragon” is mad as usual. His cold stare and stinging words left everyone silent.

“Can anybody explain to me why none of you can make such a simple job?” he threw the folders to the floor. One of his managers raised his hand.

“Speak,” he ordered closing his eyes and rubbing his temples.

“Sir, if you could only give us a few more days to finish--“his manager stopped as GD slowly stared at him coldly.

“I’ve given you 5 days and it’s still not enough for you? I hired you because all of you are the best in your field. Now if you can’t do your job then get the hell out of here!” he stood up walking over the pieces of paper scattered on the floor. He stopped before he left the room and turned to his staff again.

“I want a new report on my desk, Friday.”

“But sir that’s 2 days from now!” one of his staff members protested.

“Then make it happen. I don’t care if you don’t sleep or eat anymore as long as you edit and finish that report. Friday.” And with that he left.

GD walked back to his office. A very huge room filled with high-class modern furniture, glass walls surround his office overlooking Seoul, South Korea. He sat on his business chair contemplating. After a few moments he grew tired of thinking and looked outside his office. The sky was clear and pleasant to the eyes. He stared on for a few more minutes being drifted away to the beauty of it. Not that he usually appreciates things easily it was just that it isn’t every day that he gets to look up at the sky.

“Chaerin, stop dreaming and help me out here.” Her older brother Jung Woo said carrying their stuff from out of the truck.

“Yeah,” she answered. She has been staring in space while taking a quick break from carrying their stuff to their new home.

Chaerin has lived in Japan ever since she was young. Due to her father’s business they moved there. They have been living happily until 3 years ago one of her father’s business partners backstabbed him and caused their company to go bankrupt. Her father has then been in debt which led to them selling some their property. Leaving their high class house they had to live with a relative in Japan for the mean time. Chaerin and her brother had to throw away their pride and find regular jobs. Her smooth and soft hands that weren’t used to work have suddenly experienced washing plates, giving out flyers and mopping restaurant floors. A month ago Chaerin and her family suffered a greater loss when their father died of heart attack. He died working at construction site carrying heavy equipment. That was when their mother decided to go back to South Korea and start a new life seeing as living in Japan will only remind her of their father. Hence, Chaerin had to sell the only thing she loved, her piano in order to go to South Korea. It was no use keeping it since she stopped piano training.

“Chaerin, tell your brother to stop for awhile and have some lunch,” her mother said softly, her eyes were still puffy from crying every night.

“I’ll go tell him,” she said placing down a small box and heading outside to call her brother.

“Oppa, let’s take a break and eat,” her brother just finished taking out all their stuff from the truck and paid the driver of the packing company.

“I’ll just put this inside and join you guys in awhile,” he said busily fixing and inspecting their belongings. He then came across a box containing a small broken frame. He took it and wiped it with his shirt. It was a picture of a woman he loved. He could remember how their engagement ended painfully due to his family’s financial status. Her parents couldn’t accept giving their daughter to a family who has a bad reputation and is in debt. They also withdrew their plans on making new investments with their company.

Chaerin knowing this sadly watched as he returned the picture frame back to the box and closed it slowly. “Why do people have to be so unkind?” She thought and looked up at the sky again which has been her source of comfort, its beauty and peace gave her hope that there is still good left in this world.

Chapter 2

Chaerin was walking back to their house since she’d rather walk than have her personal driver take her home. She had a small smile in her face and a paper in hand. She had just come back from an audition, she and her band made it to the contest. She just couldn’t wait to tell her parents about it so she decided to run for it. Nearing the gate of their house she saw cars parked in front. She could see her mother crying and holding on to her father who helplessly watched as the men entered their house. She hurried to them in time to see their things labelled in red tags and the men pushing her father to the ground when he tried to stop them in putting a red tag on her piano.

“Chaerin-ah, wake up,” her mother shook her gently looking worried. She was having nightmares ever since her father died and it worried both her mother and brother.

Chaerin got up and went to the bathroom. She washed her face and looked into the mirror. “Good morning,” she muttered to herself in a bored tone. After fixing herself and having a light breakfast she headed out to look for a job. Knowing that her brother’s job as a salesman wasn’t enough to bring up their family needs she decided to try her luck out. The weather was pleasant as she walked on the streets of Seoul carrying a map and remembering every street close to their neighbourhood.

In a huge dark room the timer went off and the curtains automatically went up exposing Ji Yong to the bright sunshine. He shielded himself with his hand as he tried to open his eyes to the bright light. Beside him lay a woman, half naked and still asleep. He sat up rubbing his head and running his hands through his dark hair. Bottles of expensive beer were scattered on the floor because of last night’s party. From the bar he and three of his friends headed off to his flat to hang out for awhile. Ji Yong had 5 high-end condos and 3 mansions in Korea not counting those in the U.S., Europe and Australia, this one was only one of them. He took a shower and grabbed some clothes before leaving not even bothering to know the name of the woman he slept with. He continued rubbing his head due to the alcohol he consumed last night. Taking out his cellphone to call his driver he realized that the battery had already ran out. He threw the phone in the garbage can and went in the elevator cursing the wind. He could tell it was going to be a bad if not the worst day of the week. Feeling hungry he walked through the streets searching for an expensive and high class restaurant but there were none that he liked. After walking a few more blocks he’s stomach grumbled and his headache worsened so even if it wasn’t his style to enter a simple restaurant he had no choice.

With luck Chaerin had finally found a job offer as a waitress, due to her qualifications in Japan she was immediately put through training.

“This one of our employees, Min Hee she will guide you through everything around the restaurant,” the manager said as he gave her the restaurant’s uniform.

“You can change in the restroom,” Min Hee said. She smiled at her and showed her the way to the restrooms. “Come to me once you’re done.”

“Okay,” Chaerin replied. She had to remember to speak the Korean language since she got so used to speaking in Japanese. She went in the restroom and began changing in the red and white uniform. After a few minutes she went out fully dressed and reported back to Min Hee. She memorized the restaurant’s menu and learned what had to be learned. In a few hours her training began, she served some of the customers who had a few orders, doing her best in order to be officially hired as a regular employee.

Ji Yong entered the restaurant and sat down the seat near the window looking annoyed at the fact that he had to settle in such restaurant to eat. Every morning he’s personal chef from France served him fancy dishes only the rich savoured. Again, he cursed his friend for inviting him to the club last night which caused all these to happen to him. Looking at the menu he frowned unable to decide what to eat. He looked up to call the waiter but he was busy with another customer so he glanced around and saw a waitress. Chaerin went over as soon as she saw Ji Yong looking around.

“Sir, is there anything you need?” She said respectfully.

“I don’t know what to order. What is the most expensive meal here?”

Chaerin pointed on a particular meal. She carefully explained the quality and ingredients put in it.

“It’s not the most expensive but it has the perfect taste for a hangover,” she said noticing the strong scent of alcohol in him.

“I know I’m not in my best appearance but I don’t need you to point that out for me Ms. Waitress.” He began looking her up and down.

“I-I’m sorry if you were offended I just wanted to help you, sir.” His cold remark surprised her since she wasn’t used to such cold treatment.

“Well, you should be. Anyway, I’ll take the meal you suggested.” He said rubbing his head for the tenth time.

Chaerin swallowed all her pride and just let it pass since he was her customer.

“It'll be ready in a few minutes, sir. And I’m really sorry,” she said once again bowing respectfully.

Chaerin headed back to the counter to give his order to the cook. She breathed deeply after she left Ji Yong. He was the first customer she had encountered a problem with and good thing it didn’t go any worse than that. But she knew that all the customers she had served will be given survey forms regarding her service so she quickly thought of ways to cover up for the bad start they had.

“You’ve got a really good-looking customer there, Chaerin-ssi” Min Hee said from behind cutting off her thoughts.

“Who?” Chaerin asked innocently.

“That guy near the window, silly. Don’t you find him cute at all?”

“Ahh, him.” She looked at Ji Yong hanging his head low and still rubbing his temples every now and then. “If only you knew how cold he was you wouldn’t even think f him as cute” Chaerin thought darkly seeing the other women in the restaurant glancing at him as well. “Thinking about it though he’s looks aren’t that ordinary,” She continued staring at him until an idea came to her. In a few minutes she went over to serve his coffee which he sipped lightly. She prepared to leave when he stopped her.

“Wait,” he said grabbing her arm.

“Is there something wrong, sir?” Chaerin immediately asked her heart almost skipped a beat fearing what he might say this time.

“I didn’t order coffee. Actually, I forgot to.” He said in a flat tone. He’s eyes piercing through her as he looked up.

“Well, it’s true you didn’t order it, sir. I-I m-made it because I—“she said stuttering.

“You made this? What’s the name of this coffee?”

“Actually sir, it’s not on the menu. I-I made it myself so you don’t have to pay for it. If you don’t like—“but before she could finish he cut her off.

“Resign.” He said still holding her arm.

“Sir?” she said slowly. Chaerin’s heart stopped beating with his words. “Y-you want me to resign?”

“Yes, I want you to resign right now
."

Chapter 3

Ji Yong stood up dragging Chaerin with him. He went to the counter and demanded for the manager.

“Sir, Is there a problem with our service?” Min Hee asked surprised she looked at Chaerin who was behind him.

“I want the manager now!” Ji Yong raised his voice making the other customers stare with curiosity. The manager came hearing the commotion.

“What seems to be the problem sir?” the manager asked calmly.

Ji Yong pulled Chaerin to the front. She became pale feeling really embarrassed. Earlier she kept trying to apologize but he didn’t hear her out. Telling herself not to cry she swallowed hard hoping this was all just a nightmare. She stood anticipating the most hurtful words he was about to say.

“She won’t be working for you anymore. I’m taking her,” he said simply.

“What?” Chaerin looked back at him in disbelief.

“If she can’t leave immediately because you need time to find a replacement then I’m willing to pay any amount. So, how much does she cost?” his words left everyone in shock. He even looked as if it was a normal thing to say.

"Cost? What does he think I am? A toy?" Chaerin thought in disbelief.

“Sir, she’s only a trainee. She doesn’t have any contracts with our company yet so she’s technically not one of our regular employees.” The manager said still staring at him expectantly.

“Good,” Ji Yong said grabbing a stunned Chaerin in the arm again and dragging her out of the restaurant. Once outside Chaerin finally came to her senses realizing what just happened.

“Wait sir-- I mean, you!” she said trying to release her arm from his very tight grip. I’ve put up with all of these until now. “Could you at least tell me what I did that’s causing all this?” Saying this she successfully freed her arm from him.

“You?” Is that how you call your superior? You should actually be thankful since not many employees can enter in my company,” he said in a tone that irritated Chaerin other than his cold and piercing gaze.

“Is that really how you talk to people? And besides I’m not working for you.” Chaerin said turning to leave, remembering about her stuff that she left back in the restaurant.

Ji yong just looked on at her, if there is one thing people close to him knew it is that nobody declines Gdragon’s offer. “You’ll be mine soon.”

She got back to the restaurant her head hanging low to avoid eye contact with anybody. “Why on earth do I have to meet a person like him today?” she thought.

“Chaerin-ssi,” Min Hee came close to her. “What really happened? And who was that guy anyway?” she asked worried upon seeing the look on Chaerin’s face.

“I don’t know. That guy was just some crazy lunatic,” she replied softly. “By the way, where’s manager-nim? I just want to apologize. It also seems that I have to find a new job.”

“Well, if you’re looking for a job my cousin is employed in a huge fashion company. She might be able to help you” Min Hee smiled, placing a hand in her shoulder, trying to cheer her up.

Chaerin walked out of the restaurant sighing. She just apologized to the manager who was kind enough to understand everything. He even wanted to give her a chance but she declined fearing that the crazy lunatic might come by again. She passed by a nearby park and sat on a bench to compose herself again. Taking out a piece of paper Min Hee gave her earlier she looked at it closely. It contained the address and a contact detail of the company Min Hee’s cousin was employed in. “I guess I should at least try it out,” she said to herself before getting up and hailing a taxi.

Reaching her destination Chaerin gazed at the huge building.

“Wow, I knew she said huge but I didn’t know it would be this grand,” Chaerin entered the building, the architecture was really good and the floor’s tiles are glassy and shiny, even the smell was good. It has been awhile when Chaerin entered in such classy building but none the less it didn’t intimidate her. She then asked the receptionist for a girl named Park So Ra, Min Hee’s cousin. She then met her and as expected she was as kind as Min Hee. It looks as if she came in time since a secretary has just resigned.

“I have to warn you though, it’s best if you train yourself to handle the pressure,” So Ra said carefully.

I know the hard work of being a secretary and moreover I have already worked in a company before so I’m used to it.” She replied.

“Well, that’s great! I’ll recommend you to our supervisors and schedule an interview appointment for you,”So Ra said taking Chaerin’s cell phone number.
Chaerin went back home late in the afternoon to tell her mother about the company she hopefully is to be accepted. She left out the part where she applied for a restaurant and of course the crazy lunatic knowing it would only put her mother in distress.

She was helping her mother cook when her phone rang.

“I’ll take it,” Chaerin said. She then answered the phone.

"Chaerin-ssi, good news! You’ve been accepted immediately, even I got confused. They said that the Vice-president saw your resume and accepted you immediately out of the hundreds of applicants. You don’t need an interview either. Do you happen to know him?" So Ra asked jokingly since it was a first that somebody got in the company without formal interview and screening.

“Seriously?!” Chaerin said unable to contain her excitement. After awhile she finished speaking with So Ra and hugged her mother immediately, telling her the good news. Actually she thought that it would be hard entering a company because companies in Japan reject her once they see her father’s name and company.

So Ra on the other hand went immediately to the Vice-president’s office,

“Sir, you have a business dinner with a client in about an hour and your new secretary will report to work tomorrow morning,” she finished and bowed as soon as he signalled her to leave.

“Lee Chaerin,” Ji Yong said holding Chaerin’s resume in his hand. He placed it on his table and stood up to get ready for his business dinner.

Chapter 4

Chaerin looked at herself in the mirror. She’s all dressed up for work and ready to leave. She tied her hair up like always and wore minimal make-up. Her mother wished her luck and gave her the packed lunch she prepared earlier.

“Do well in work, they must have high expectations from you since they hired you on the spot,” Her mother said, her voice filled with concern. “And don’t skip your meals, okay?” she finished.

“Yes mom, I’ll do well,” Chaerin smiled, taking her shoulder bag and heading out.

The weather must be reflecting her happy mood as the sun shone brightly. She took the bus and after a couple of minutes she got to the company. So Ra greeted her and introduced her to some of the employees. She was then brought to her own table just outside the Vice-president’s office. Learning what the boss likes and hates, she noticed how specific he was with his coffee.

“He’s very particular about it,” So Ra repeated it again for the third time. “It’s the first thing he asks for in the morning. It’s also the one thing that sets his mood. I didn’t get the chance to ask you about it since you got hired immediately.” She continued.

“Cleanliness and organized that’s how he wants his files to be,” So Ra said remembering everything that G-dragon would want. “Also, if he’s in a dark mood I suggest you have to learn to duck and hide. Any questions?” she asked.

“Duck and hide?” Chaerin said looking at So Ra confused.

“Ahh, about that, he likes to throw stuff that’s why. Don’t ask it’s a habit.” So Ra said shaking her head and remembering the many times G-dragon would throw his coffee cups, documents and even the furniture when he is displeased with them.

“Oh, and before I forget Chaerin-ssi, good luck,” So Ra said as she went back to her work area, a few steps away from Chaerin’s.
Chaerin had a feeling something wasn’t right. She could see some of the employees look at her in a very sympathetic way. Sometimes they’d whisper and glance on her direction and then pretend to do something else whenever she’d look their way. Not wanting to bother about it she went on memorizing the Vice-president’s schedule. It was then that she finally understood the hard work her own personal secretary did back when she was working at her father’s company. After college she worked there for 2 years before things came to be.

“Hi, you're the new secretary?”

Chaerin looked up to see who it was.

“Yes, my name is Lee Chaerin, nice to meet you,” she said standing up and giving him a bow.

“I’m Choi Dong Hyun, I work as the division chief here, nice to meet you too,” he smiled warmly and she couldn’t deny how charming he looked. “It must be hard on you,” he added.

“Don’t worry sir, I work best under pressure,” she said confidently.

“I’m not talking about your work, I’m talking about the man you are working for,” he said seriously.

“Mr. Kwon?” she said confused.

“I don’t want to scare you since it’s your first day but I just want to let you know what to expect. Not one single person who sat on that chair lasted for a year, to be exact three months. Don’t be fooled with his looks. You really seem like a nice girl, confident and smart but in my years here I’ve seen even the best break-down. But you're also the first that I’ve seen that was chosen personally by him so if there’s anything you need maybe a shoulder to cry on, just tell me.” he said lifting her spirits up.

“Seems like Mr. Crazy –lunatic isn’t the only one of his kind.” Chaerin thought preparing herself for the worst.

Fifteen minutes before 10 everyone scrambled preparing everything before G-dragon comes. Chaerin made the coffee and arranged his files for review. She even posted small post-its so he won’t be confused.

As the clock read 10am the elevator door opened and G-dragon (GD) walked in. It didn’t need an interpreter to tell that he was in a dark mood, again. Chaerin was still putting the finishing touch to the coffee whipping a bit of cream and creating a leaf-like design in the coffee. She walked outside just in time to give G-dragon his coffee. She was so careful not to spill the coffee that she didn’t get a clear look on his face. GD was about to enter his office when he stopped in front of Chaerin.

“Coffee,” he demanded.

She handed him the coffee looking down since she learned to not look straight at your superior’s eyes for it was a sign of disrespect. GD took the coffee looked at it and took a sip.

“This is better than before,” he said.

Chaerin looked up at him, his voice sounded very familiar. A voice she dreaded hearing again.

“Y-you?” she said loosing every ounce of excitement and confidence she once had.

“You’re lucky the coffee is passable to my tastes enough to make me forget you just called me in that way again. And what is that you’re wearing? This is a fashion company. You are my secretary, the first thing they see before they enter my office and you will be with me in every meeting and event. What will people say if they see me with someone dressed like you?” he said eyeing her from head to foot.

“Sir, should we discuss about the upcoming company projects?” Jung Hyun interrupted trying to save Chaerin from GD’s wrath.

“Dong Hyun, call my stylist. Tell her to buy some clothes for her,” he said pointing at Chaerin.

“Yes sir,” he replied quickly taking his hand phone out.

GD was about to enter his office when he stopped again and went to Chaerin. He was so close to her that she stepped back. He suddenly reached for her hair and took the tie off letting her hair down.

“The hair will cover for the lack of style,” he said fixing her hair. He then held her face with his left hand turning it right and left.

“Not bad,” he said as Chaerin frustratingly yanked his hand down, jerking her face away from him and stepping back further.

Some of the employees gasped at what she did but GD just let it pass finally entering his office.

Chaerin sat down on her chair feeling wronged. She thought for awhile before taking a piece of paper and started composing her resignation later. “I’d rather die than work for that crazy-lunatic.” she thought angrily.

GD sat down his leather seat still holding his coffee. On his other hand was Chaerin’s hair tie. He stared at it for a moment before placing it at his desk.

“Dong Hyun, the weather looks great today, don’t you think?” GD stated looking up the sky from his office.

“I think so too, sir” Dong Hyun responded quite surprised by the comment. After all it was highly uncommon for GD to say something that positive.

Lunch came as Chaerin sighed heavily as she sat on the company’s cafeteria. She, So Ra and Dong Hyun sat on a bench outside.

“Of course I know what fashion is. I can enumerate all the fashion icons out there and dress up better than all those women you see on TV!” she protested. Dong Hyun chuckled while So Ra shook her head.

“And I seriously detest going inside that office because of how cold and gloomy it feels. What was worse is that he’d keep on criticizing me every now and then, mostly about style and fashion.” she continued.

“Not to mention the 3 hours GD called you numerous times mostly for senseless reasons like cleaning his desk 2x, getting him water 3x, charging 3 of his phones and fixing a painting which he insists looks tilted (he stared at the painting for almost an hour making adjustments).” So Ra enumerated with her fingers.

“Honestly, at this rate we can say that Ji Yong handles you lightly than the other employees. You must really make good coffee.” Dong Hyun said. He and So Ra began asking Chaerin where she learned how to make coffee.

“My dad,” came Chaerin’s simple reply. Not wanting to talk about it further she changed the topic.

The whole day finally ended as employees got ready to head for home. Chaerin sat on desk staring blankly into space really exhausted. She had just attended a series of meetings and did all of GD’s demands. She had just made up her mind to resign as soon as tomorrow. GD’s stylist was down with a flu so she wasn't able to come today which only angered GD. Anger which he vented out on all his employees especially Chaerin.

“Chae-ah, Time to go!” So Ra said cutting her deep thoughts and bringing her back to reality again.

“Ah, right,” Chaerin said immediately fixing her desk.

Walking outside to the bus stop with So Ra, Chaerin just wanted to drink her mother’s hot tea and lay in bed. She was too tired to even care about the black car that stopped in front of them. The window shield opened revealing GD staring coldly at the both of them.

So Ra immediately bowed down and pulling Chaerin to bow as well who was again deep in thought.

“Secretary, we have a convention to attend tomorrow. Don’t be late and dress fashionably,” GD said in his usual emotionless tone. He started closing his window shield when Chaerin spoke,

“Do you think I’m still going to work for you, Mr. Kwon? I’m resigning. I’ll hand my resignation letter tomorrow morning.” She said this and left, walking towards the bus. So Ra bowed down again to GD and quickly hurried to Chaerin.

“Resign?” GD said sarcastically as his car sped off.

“Are you sure of that?” So Ra asked Chaerin for the hundredth time.

“Unnie, how do bear to work with someone like him? That guy is a total jerk,” she said looking out the window of the bus.

“Chae-ah, I’m doing it for my family and also he’s not really that evil you know. Did you know that a year ago a number of employees protested against the company Vice-president was the only one who stood up for the employees when the company tried to fire all of them. You’ll just get used to him after some time.” She said encouragingly.

“I don’t really know, Unnie,” Chaerin said as she got ready to step down the bus. She said goodbye to So Ra and walked off.

Nearing their house Chaerin saw 2 cars parked outside their house. A familiar heavy feeling swept down her as she entered her house. She suddenly ran inside hearing her mother cry out.

“Do you think you can really escape us?” one of the men said angrily.

Jung Woo was on the floor his lip was bleeding.

“Don’t you dare talk to my mother like that!” he yelled.

“Oppa! Omma!” Chaerin rushed to them.

“What do you want from us? We’ve already paid every of our debts!” she screamed at them holding her mother tightly.

“Well, that’s what you think,” the man said as they continued destroying everything
.

Chapter 5

The men continued to threaten Chaerin and her family. They even hit her brother as he fought back.

“We aren’t trying to escape you! We didn’t borrow any money recently. How could you come here hurting people and destroying all our things?” Chaerin snapped at him.

“Your good father borrowed money from us 2 months ago and you're saying that none of you know about it. Now that he is dead who do you think will pay for it?” he hissed as he raised his hand to hit Chaerin, she shut her eyes ready for the impact.

“Hey you, monkey-face,” a voice came before the man could hit Chaerin.

You’re mother must be a shameful woman and you're father a bastard for not teaching you not to hurt women. Moreover, that girl doesn’t even have any fashion sense to begin with and keeps calling her superiors “you” but her pretty face covers for all of that. Now, if you're going to prove me right about your disgusting parents then at least hit her where nobody can see it, we still have a convention to go to tomorrow,” he said in a tone which shows no hint of fear. His eyes coldly staring at them.

“Vice-president,” Chaerin said lifting her head up.

“You little—“ their leader charged at GD ready to punch him but he was too fast for him and in a few minutes the men were all sprawled on the floor grumbling in pain.

GD went over to their leader and stepped on his chest with one foot.

“How much is it?” he demanded.

“S-six hundred th-thousand dollars” the man said gasping for air as GD added more weight on his foot.

GD took out his check book writing down $600,000 and bending down the guy placing the paper in his overcoat pocket.

“You go and hurt people like this again especially the people who work for me and I’ll make sure that hell will come for you,” he said in a low voice only the man could hear.”

The man quickly nodded as he got up and scrambled away with his men. Meanwhile GD stood up and walked out the door as if nothing happened. He dusted his shirt calling the place not suitable for people to live in.

“Wait, you!” Chaerin called out running after GD. He stopped turning to face her.

“What? Are you going to thank me? Don’t. I didn’t do it for free.”

“I know that. Don’t worry I’ll pay you. Just give me time.”

“And how are you going to that? Even if you don’t resign it’ll take more or less 2 years for you to pay me,”

“I’ll find a way,” Chaerin insisted.

“Or let’s make this easy. You keep working in the company and not pay me anymore,”

“That’s all?”

“Of course not. Do you know how to cook?”

“Yeah. Why?”

“My stupid maid just got pregnant while my chef had left yesterday due to meaningless reasons so my house is dirty and there’s nobody to cook my meals. Get the point? Now stop staring at me and pack your bags. I’ll wait for you in the car.” He said walking to his car.

“Wait! I haven’t agreed on anything yet and why do I have to stay at your house? Can’t I just head home after I cook your dinner?” Chaerin objected.

I come home late sometimes past midnight. The food will have been cold at that time. Should I explain everything to you? Hurry up, I dislike waiting! He said as he got inside his car.

Chaerin went back inside her house still puzzled as to what she should do. Her mother was mending her brother’s bruises as she came back.

“Chaerin-ah, who was that guy?” Jung Woo asked as her mother looked up at her as well both of them curious.

“He’s the Vice-president of the company I work for,” Chaerin said thinking of ways to tell them that she had to leave that night with GD. Knowing that telling the truth would only make things worse she decided to lie.

“Actually, I was transferred somewhere else and it looks like I would have to stay in the company’s dorm because it really is far. Mr. Kwon was just kind enough to come and take me there given that he also has a convention to attend to near the area. We have to travel now so we could get there in time,” she reasoned going to her room to pack her stuff.

“Why are they transferring you? Haven’t you just began your first day of work today?” Her mother asked following her.

“I did a really good job and they wanted to train me further. Don’t worry I’ll come and visit during the weekends,” she said taking her clothes from the small closet. Her clothes weren't that many since she sold almost half of them leaving her with clothes that are plain and simple.

“Where is the place they transferred you to?” Jung Woo asked again.

“Uhmm. In Busan.” Chaerin thought quickly.

“But isn’t this just too fast?” Jung Woo said holding her hand to stop her.

“Oppa, because of our current situation I didn’t have any second thoughts on taking the offer. Please trust me on this one and take care of Omma. Promise me that.” She answered and hugged him lightly.

“I promise,”
Chaerin finished packing her stuff as Jung Woo helped her carry the suitcase to the car. Before leaving she gave her mother a hug. Except for the time she has spent travelling in Europe this was the first time she would be away from her family.

Entering the car she sat next to GD wondering what would be in store for her. They drove off and after some time they finally arrived. GD’s villa was huge and the architecture was modern. They got off still not saying a word to each other. GD headed on inside while Chaerin followed dragging her suitcase in she stopped in front of the door hesitating. Slowly she entered the house. Like GD’s office it was as cold and gloomy that the thought of staying there even for a few days would be a nightmare for her.

“I’m so dead,” Chaerin muttered as she finally stepped inside, the door shutting behind her

Chapter 6

Morning came bringing warmth to the whole city. Chaerin opened her eyes she looked around her confused for a moment, it was only a few seconds until she realized that she was in GD’s residence. Last night’s events happened so fast that she didn’t have enough time to let everything sink in. She finally got out of her bed, fixing the white sheets. Her room was nice but she still sought the comforts of her own home. Taking a shower first and then preparing her clothes for work before she did anything else.

She finally started cooking breakfast for GD whose bedroom was upstairs, the big black door of his room visible from below. The modern themed house is beautiful and it reflected so much on GD’s personality. The furniture was all black and white, from the sofa to the curtains and even the kitchen. It gave off a depressing feeling. It felt lonely and empty.

After the cooking is all done, she made next is his highly demanded coffee. Placing everything on the cold table she looked around thinking of what to do next. The clock read eight, she still had to hurry off to work.

“Should I wake him up?” Chaerin asked herself walking towards GD’s room.

She stopped at the stairs still deciding whether to continue or not. She hasn’t been at this part of the house yet.

“Maybe not,” she finally decided stepping back down the stairs. She hasn’t completely got down when the door suddenly opened. GD emerged from inside running his hands through his hair. Chaerin looked up at him, he is wearing only his silk black pajamas below, as for his top he wore nothing exposing his well defined abs. Seeing him made Chaerin turn her head away quickly. Even though she had a brother it still felt awkward to have a shirtless man in front of you, especially if he is your boss.

“Your breakfast is ready,” she said before walking away quickly.

GD got to the kitchen eyeing the food carefully. The meal itself looked simple. He sat on the chair getting a spoon and scooping out Chaerin’s beef fried rice. He looked at it first frowning before putting it in his mouth. Swallowing it carefully it wasn’t as bad as he thought it would be. He sipped the coffee and took a bite on the garlic bread wondering where that girl went.

“Lee Chaerin,” he called out twice.

Chaerin came out of her room all-dressed up for work and carrying her hand bag.

“Is there anything you need sir?” she said not looking at him.

“Is that what you're wearing today?” he asked looking at her simple attire. “I must say the food looks more presentable than the one who created it.”

“With all due respect, sir, there are people who unlike you don’t have the money to buy stylish clothes even if they want to. If there isn’t anything else then I’ll take my leave,” she said walking away.

“Do you plan on going to Jejudo by yourself with only that bag?” he said before sipping his coffee again.

“Jejudo?” Chaerin whirled around.

“Those thugs last night must have hit you hard to forget about the convention we are supposed to attend today.” He said finishing his meal. “Pack your bags our flight will be two hours from now.”

“How long are we going to stay there?”

“3 days.”

Chaerin followed GD at the airport carrying her bag pack and dragging GD’s suitcase. She just wanted to kick him or punch him on the face right there. But because that might never happen she decided to concentrate on the place they were going to. She’s been to Jejudo once remembering how much she enjoyed her stay there. Those were the happy times.
After a couple of hours GD’s private jet arrived at Jejudo where a limousine awaited their arrival. They headed off to the hotel to rest before going to the convention. Chaerin entered her room across GD’s.

The room was huge and elegant. The bed reminded her of her room back in Japan. She lay for awhile closing her eyes until her phone ringing beside her made her sit up again. It was a unregistered number.

“Hello,” she answered.

“Hey you, get ready in 20 minutes. We need to go somewhere important.” GD’s cold tone sent her whole peace and quiet back into the stressful atmosphere.

“Where does he want to go now?” she wondered checking her watch. It was still six more hours before the event starts.

After 15 minutes Chaerin waited outside GD’s room her hands on the pockets of her white dress which she paired with her black knee length jeans. 2 minutes later the door opened and out came GD. He dressed up casually wearing a gray shirt, black jeans and white sneakers. His dark sunglasses covered his eyes. He walked on not saying a word as Chaerin followed him from behind.

GD drove the car going to several shops he bought dozens of toys and children’s clothes all of which he made Chaerin carry. She could clearly see why she brought her with him what wasn't clear was why he bought a lot of children’s stuff.

“Does he already have kids?” she thought.

Chaerin went over to GD who was already at the girls section choosing over 2 small dresses.

“Which do you think looks nice?” he asked her a he held up at the 2 pieces looking at it seriously as if it was such an important matter.

“The pink one looks cute,” Chaerin decided.

GD looked at her. “I think so too. Your fashion sense must be improving.” He said looking back at the pink dress.

“It’s a good choice, sir. You’re little girl will look good in it.” The saleslady said looking at GD then at Chaerin.

“No, where not…together we’re just uhm…nothing,” Chaerin immediately said slightly embarrassed by the misconception while GD walked on to a different section.

GD finally paid all the stuff and turned to Chaerin.

“Get the change,” GD said told Chaerin. He walked towards the door when he stopped and turn back to her and taking half of the paper bags she is carrying. “Hurry up,” he said impatiently before walking back to the car.

“You must be lucky to have a sweet and good-looking husband,” the lady behind the counter smiled handing over the change and receipt.

“It’s really not—“ Chaerin tried to explain but the sound of GD’s car impatiently beeping outside interrupted her.

“Uh, never mind” she said taking the change and rushing out the door.

“They look cute together, don’t they?" The cashier commented looking at the saleslady who nodded her head in agreement.

After a few minutes of driving across the lush countryside Chaerin broke the silence.

“How old are they?” Chaerin asked GD who was beside her his eyes fixed on the road. She guessed earlier that he didn’t want anyone finding about his kids so he only brought her with him.

“They range from 6 to 10,” GD answered.

“How many…are “they”?” she asked slowly. She just couldn’t imagine him being a father.

“Sixteen,”

“Sixteen?!” she blurted out looking at GD’s serious face.

“How about their mother?” she pressed further guessing that there might not only be one. She has heard the many short-lived relationships GD had.

“Some are dead and some just left,” GD said getting annoyed with the many questions.

They finally stopped in front of a huge brown house with Chaerin still in a daze with what he just said. GD stepped out and took the presents from the back of the car. Chaerin went out to help him. The house felt cosy with its honey colored wallpaper and the beautiful paintings hanging on the wall. Passing through the small corridor Chaerin noticed the many pictures of small children hanging on the walls. They’re faces showing innocence a heart-warming sight to behold. Chaerin continued observing around her until she came upon a large frame hanging at the end of the hall, a picture of all the children, 2 old ladies and GD who looked younger. There was something about GD in the picture that looked quite different, he seemed more contented.

As they neared the room where the children were Chaerin could hear small voices singing a happy tune. GD carefully opened the door and the singing that was heard earlier was replaced by cheers from the young children who all came running towards GD

“Children, back to your seats let our visitors sit. Didn’t you want to show Ji Yong what we all practiced?” a middle-aged lady who sat in front said in a loud voice.

The children all went back to their seats but kept looking at GD and Chaerin not able to contain their excitement.

This time Chaerin finally understood now who these children were. They were orphans being supported by GD. Her heart melted as they presented a song number in front of them.

“These kids, they were left to stand in this world alone and are deprived of a parent’s love.” Chaerin mused as she sat next to GD watching the children all smiling and excited by their visit.

In a matter of minutes they played with the children joining them on their activities. Chaerin found herself enjoying so much that she forgot all her worries and the stressful work. As she glanced at GD she saw him patiently listening to each child and giving each one of them a piece of his attention. But then one gesture completely changed the way she looked at him as he smiled warmly. A smile that she thought she’d never find on someone like him. A smile that pulled something deep inside her heart

Chapter 7

The wind blew softly along the beautiful landscape, a scene that will make anyone linger on the memories one had once had. Chaerin breathed in deeply enjoying the warm atmosphere. The kids are now playing outside running around while the caretakers watch over them. She could see GD busily talking with someone on the phone. They haven’t spoken to each other ever since they got there. A young girl caught her attention showing a drawing she made. Carrying the girl and placing her on her lap she listened as she talked about what it meant. She was answering the little girl’s innocent questions when the lady from earlier sat beside her.

“Hi, I believe we haven’t met yet. My name is Go Hyo Rin. I manage the orphanage,” She smiled at her which made her remember her own mother.

“I’m Lee Chaerin. I’m Sir Kwon’s personal assistant. Nice to meet you,” She said politely bowing lightly. “So, it looks like GD’s really close with the children,” she looked at the little girl who sat on her lap.

“He established this orphanage 4 years ago. Some of the children here are personally brought in by Ji Yong. Orphans hold a special place in his heart that’s why this place has become sort of an escape from all his worries,” Hyo Rin looked at the children playing at the small playground.

“Now I see why the kids really like him, he gave them a new life and in return he finds solace within their smiles,” the little girl yawned, her head dropping slowly on Chaerin’s shoulders.

“How close are you to our Ji Yong? I mean your…relationship with him, how deep is it?” Hyo Rin asked gently.

“I only work for him. There’s really nothing to it, nothing more than that.” She said thinking of how many times the same misconception happened. “Do we really look like a couple?” she said jokingly laughing lightly.“I heard he goes for the supermodel type,” she finished.

“Strange, it just made me wonder why none of those rumoured “supermodel girlfriends” have ever came here,” Hyo Rin said looking at Chaerin. “Chaerin-ssi, honestly, you are the first person he has brought here.”

“I guess that would be because of the debt I still owe him,” Chaerin replied.

“Money is nothing to a man like him. His family is the richest here in Korea. I’ve seen it all myself when I worked as his nanny before. I’ve also seen how Ji Yong grew up not having anyone being there for him. When he’s parents died I saw him crying by himself in the hospital and after that he always looked sad, he also became sensitive about being left behind. In his mind he thinks people leave him because he’s useless so he strived hard to reach the top. Now he can get everything he wants. He also makes sure that before anyone could leave him he left them first,” Hyo Rin said shaking her head in disappointment.

“Can you do me a favour then?” she asked Chaerin.

“Of course, what is it?” Chaerin said unable to decline the kind lady’s request.

“Ji Yong doesn’t have the comfort of family or true friends to be there for him. He has always been alone, and carrying such a big responsibility in the company adds up to his burdens. But seeing you here gave me a relief. Chaerin-ssi, please don’t leave him, I know how hard he is to be with but please be patient and try to understand him,” Hyo Rin said almost pleading.

I don’t think I’m the right person for this. The vice-president is a person who I honestly hate and even though seeing him here led me to think that he’s not as bad I thought I just don’t think I could work under him for a long time. Besides I think he hates me as much as I hate him,” she said thinking of the many disagreements they had.

“I had a feeling you’d say that but I just want you to know that everything happens for a reason. I strongly believe that you coming into his life could be a blessing. You could be the one who might make him change and make him believe that he’s not alone,” Hyo Rin held her hand as she saw GD walking towards them.

“We should get going,” he said checking his watch.

Hyo Rin’s words stuck to her head as they said their goodbyes to the children. She knew that she will miss them so much. They thanked Hyo Rin and got in the car.

The event had already started as they came. They both first went to the hotel quickly changing their clothes and getting ready. GD wore a suit dressing handsomely as always while Chaerin had a simple cocktail dress not putting that much effort on her looks since it wouldn’t really matter at all. She spent the evening at the event arranging everything for GD, taking notes on new business partners, appointments and other stuff. She memorized each VIP before- hand, telling GD who is this and that. Not only that, answering his phone calls was also part of her job as well before handing it over to him. By the middle of the night her strength was slowly decreasing and her feet were killing her. She finally got to sit down for a short while and eat. Looking around she could see GD talking with a couple of women who all seem interested with him. One of them appears to take his interest as he whispered to her ear while she smiled and whispered back at him.

“Look at him flirting around acting like a nice guy,” Chaerin uttered to herself. Somehow she felt pity for the woman he’s with. She’ll wake up tomorrow realizing she slept with a fire-breathing animal,” she thought taking the fork and thrusting it hard to the pasta before twirling it around.

“Careful there, you’ll break the plate,”

Chaerin looked up to see a familiar face.

“Dong Hyun oppa,” she said smiling, she stood up and hugged him lightly happy to see him.

“When did you get here?” Chaerin asked Dong Hyun.

“Just a couple of hours ago, Vice-president Kwon looks interested in making investments here that’s why he called me,” Dong Hyun answered. “I’m betting that he gave you a rough time here,” he laughed trying to elevate her spirits.

“Yeah, he did,” she said, careful not to tell him of the time they went to the orphanage. GD told her to keep it a secret.

“By the way, So Ra tells me you plan to resign. Have you changed your mind?” he asked looking at her attentively.

“I think so. I mean she’s right I have to think about my family. The pay I get here is good so why should I quit because of some rude guy ordering me around,” just as she said this GD came, beside him was the woman he was conversing with, her arm clinging to him.

“You,” he said gesturing at Chaerin. “Go call the driver I need to go somewhere,” he said impatiently.

Chaerin got up and went to get the driver. The car came as GD waited by the lobby.

“You don’t have to come with me just go back to the hotel,” GD ordered Chaerin.

GD and the woman got in the car and before they could leave the car’s windows rolled back showing GD’s face.

“Dong Hyun,” GD called to Dong Hyun who was behind Chaerin.

“Drive her home,” he’s eyes were still fixed on Chaerin.

“And you, if anybody asks about me tell them I’m busy,” he told her before rolling the car’s window upwards. The car sped off leaving Chaerin and Dong Hyun.

Dong Hyun looked at Chaerin who stood still in silence. “Do you want to stay for awhile or head back to the hotel?” he asked.

“I’m tired I want to rest now,” Chaerin said weakly. In the back of her mind something didn’t feel right.

“Okay, I’ll go get the car,” he left quickly.

Chaerin got to the hotel and lay on the bed. She felt so heavy but could not find the reason for it. "Must be because I’m tired,” she kept on thinking to herself but why does she keep seeing GD leave with that woman. “I must be crazy. Why does it affect me that much?” she blurted out brushing the thoughts away. She sat up taking off her hair tie and letting her hair fall down. Getting up she went to the desk near her bed and slowly fished something from her bag. She was looking for the resignation letter she wrote, she planned on giving it to GD once she has paid for all of her debts. “Where did it go? I must have dropped it at the orphanage,” she sighed thinking that there was nothing she could do about it.

“I’ll just make another one,”

GD sat on the car he’s eyes focused straight ahead. The woman he was with sat beside him, her hand on his chest, she kissed his neck gently but GD held no response. He took out a white folded paper from his pocket, unfolding it the big bold letter reading “RESIGNATION LETTER” was written on top of it. He found it at his car where Chaerin sat.

“Stop the car,” he ordered the driver.

He got down and entered a bar as the woman he was with followed him.

It was already one in the morning yet Chaerin still couldn’t sleep. She twisted and turned on the bed but still sleep didn’t come to her. “This is so wrong,” Chaerin muttered as GD entered her thoughts again. “Just because he looked so sweet with the little kids and saved her and family doesn’t mean that she will forget every humiliating word he said,” she finally got up heading to the small kitchen feeling thirsty. She walked to the door thinking of taking a walk outside but stopped and decided to just go back to bed. Releasing the knob she slowly turned to leave when a loud knock came. The sound almost made her jump.

“Open the door,” GD’s voice echoed the hallway, he knocked impatiently. He held a bottle of beer and drank before knocking loudly again.

Chaerin quickly opened the door as soon as she heard GD.

“Is there anything you need?” she asked as soon as she opened the door.

He got in stumbling to her. “Sir, you’re drunk!” she said helping him stand up straight and bringing him over to a chair.

“Lee..Chae..Rin,” he said smiling like a stupid guy. “The girl who doesn’t know any fashion,” he said in a drunken tone as he almost tripped again.

“Mr. Kwon this isn’t your room,” she said taking his arm to help him go to his room.

“What are you talking about? This is my room, I paid for it!” he raised his voice pulling his hand away from her.

“Mr. Kwon I know you did pay for this room as well but we can’t stay here together,” she said taking his arm again.

GD only pushed her away getting up and drinking more beer. He went to the bed walking unsteadily and collapsed right in it. “Hmm, so soft,” he said hugging Chaerin’s pillow.

“Mr. Kwon,” no reply.

“Mr. Kwon,” still no reply, she could only hear gibberish words like “Soft,” “Smells good,” “Warm,” “Comfortable,” etc.

“Kwon Ji Yong!!” she yelled at him. She still couldn’t believe that the arrogant Vice-president is completely drunk in her bed.

It seemed to work as he sat up still hugging the pillow. “Shut up,” he said annoyed. He looked at her and then gestured her to come close. “I need a massage,” he said drowsily.

“No way, this isn’t a spa. This is my room that is my bed. Now, get out.” She demanded now feeling really irritated.

“No way? ...600,000…massage...now,” he mumbled closing his eyes again.

“The word 600,000 made her blood rise in high levels getting what he meant. Giving up she got up the bed behind him and massaged his shoulders. “Feels good…” he mumbled.

“Know what?" he spoke again with his drunken tone. "All of them obey me…fear me…nobody disagrees with…my ideas…they all gave me what I wished for… but you… you suggested a cheap meal… what was it for again? Oh right, my hangover… and made coffee out of the menu... instead of… suggesting an expensive meal that I asked… they all gave me what I want... but you… you gave me what I need…” his voice trailed off as he slowly fell back towards her.

“Lee Chaerin… you’re… what I need,” he finally said closing his eyes and drifting off to sleep in her arms

Chapter 8

GD felt the bright sunshine streaming on his face causing him to open his eyes for a second before closing them back again. He pulled a pillow burying his face in it. As he did this a sweet fragrance engulfed his senses. The pillow smelled like a woman’s shampoo making him stretch his arms and open his eyes fully. He checked the clock, sighing deeply as he saw the time.

“10:45, I think I must have drank too much last night,” he said to himself as he sat up and rubbed his eyes.

“Hold on, those aren’t mine,” he muttered seeing a woman’s bag on top of the desk. He scanned the room trying to remember what happened last night. The room was definitely not his. Getting up he slowly walked making his way out of the bedroom. A delicious smell wafted the air perking him up as he moved closer to the small kitchen.

“You,” he said seeing Chaerin prepare the table.

“I made breakfast,” she said getting a cup to make coffee.

“What am I doing here?” he asked eyeing her.

“You don’t remember crashing over my place last night?” she finally looked at him. He remained silent staring at the food on the table before sitting on a chair. Seeing no response from him she continued making coffee.

He watched her for awhile feeling slightly embarrassed at the thought of getting drunk and entering the wrong apartment, something that has never happened before. This was the first time he lost control to alcohol. Chaerin finished the coffee and set it in front of him.

“If the food doesn’t pass your standards then at least drink some coffee,” she said seeing that he hasn’t touched the food.

Hearing this he drank the coffee and ate the food. He appeared to have liked it as he took another serving. Strange as it is he was still unusually silent.

“Eat,” he told her.

She sat down the opposite side of the table and ate. She also told him of his schedule for the whole day which he only replied with a nod. It felt so awkward now that he doesn’t say anything leaving them both in silence. Somehow she suddenly wished that he’d just be cruel and criticize whatever came upon his radar. She could also feel his dark eyes looking at her a couple of times. After some time he finished eating and drank all of the coffee. He then finally spoke the words which made her heart stop for a second.

“Lee Chaerin, whatever I did or said last night just forget it. Last night was only a stupid mistake,” with that he stood up and left.

The whole day progressed as GD met with clients, attended a couple of social outdoor events and even played golf. Chaerin as usual, followed him around doing her job. Except for the times when GD would order her around they never talked, it just became awkward between them. Although, they were never on each other’s good side its better debating about something rather than the uncomfortable silence followed by the awkwardness. As the sun was about to set they went back to the hotel to rest.

Chaerin decided to go for a short walk and enjoy the beauty of Jeju Island. It was something she had always wanted to do ever since they arrived. Walking slowly nearing the beach she thought of her family which she hadn’t seen for almost 4 days. Even though she sent messages telling them she was doing well in Busan she still longed to see them. Arriving at the beach she could hear the waves gently hitting to the rocks, by this time the sun has almost completely vanished in the horizon leaving a trace of dark orange glow in the sky which also reflected through the waters. Even though the view was perfect she couldn’t help but feel sad. Apparently, she had felt this way ever since this morning when GD said those words.

“What’s happening to me?” she said placing her hands on her face covering her eyes and her head dropped low. “Could I possibly be falling for that crazy-lunatic?”

GD knocked on Chaerin’s door. He wanted to tell her to fix some of his files and also have her make him coffee. He knocked again but there was no answer.

“It’s too early for her to be sleeping, that girl must have gone somewhere,” he said checking his watch, annoyed at her disappearance. It was still 6:30pm.

He then left opting to find a good restaurant to eat dinner and possibly find her down town. He went down the lobby and just thought of taking a walk rather than bring his car since he has been advised by his doctor to watch his health and exercise.

Chaerin walked on the streets she reached a night market. She decided to taste the meals on the food carts along the street since she has never tried them before. Her mother always told them that street food was unhealthy and unclean but the strong scent of food cooking made her grab a bite.

She then walked further until a sweet melody caught her ears. A street performance was being held at the town square. A band played songs with their instruments. There were people watching and enjoying the light atmosphere. Seeing this she felt a tinge of nostalgia for the happy days she once had in Japan. She remembered the band she used to play in and how happy she was as they passed the auditions and then her life turned upside down after that. Now she’s left with nothing but memories.

The performance ended and the crowd applauded while some dropped a few coins on the donation box. Chaerin eyed the piano wishing she could get a chance to play one again. She somehow noticed the pianist holding his wrist and shaking his head. He was quite old and they seemed to have been playing for hours yet the donation box still wasn’t full. At that moment an idea suddenly came to her.

GD found a good restaurant to dine in and ordered something expensive. He finally finished his food yet he wasn’t that satisfied for he seemed to have been used to Chaerin’s cooking as he wanted something similar to it. He left the restaurant and thought of doing something but he couldn’t think of anything so he just kept walking.“Could she be back at the hotel by now?” He thought stopping for a moment before continuing. Passing the night market he frowned in disgust with the meals being served by the street. As he continued on his fashion and good-looks weren’t spared by onlookers as a couple of high school girls giggled at the sight of him.

GD continued on reaching the town square. He stopped short seeing a small crowd watching a street performance. Back when he was young their car passed by a street performance on a way to a social event. He wanted to take a look but his uncle only told him to behave and sit still. His uncle also told him that performers on the street are only for the poor.

GD was about to turn back when he heard a strong melody followed by a female’s clear and smooth singing voice. Somehow, the voice and melody pulled his feet towards the street performance curiosity rising. His heart tightened as he came closer seeing the girl playing the piano.

“Chaerin,” he uttered in disbelief seeing her together with the band members.

Her riveting vocals and powerful emotions made passerby stop and listen. GD made his way slowly through the crowd never taking his eyes off her.

this is the song she sang

As she hit the last note there was silence then a loud applause from the crowd who was breathless to hear more. Chaerin stood up and bowed smiling to the band members who all thanked her for helping them. She was about to go for another round when she saw GD in front of her. He walked toward her and grabbed her by the arm.

“Wait, Mr. Kwon, where are we going?” she asked as he dragged her away.

“Back to the hotel,” he said coldly.

“But, sir, you don’t have any scheduled event for the night,” she tried to reason out to him.

“So?” he asked as she freed herself from him.

“So, I guess you don’t really need me… right now,” she replied slowly, looking down.

“What are you talking about? There are files scattered everywhere and I want coffee. I called the driver he’s going to be here soon,” he said.

While waiting for the car they were again covered by silence as they stood a few metres apart each other. Catching her looking back at the street band a question came to his mind. “Where’d you learn how to play the piano?” he suddenly asked.

“I used to own one,”

“Used to? Let me guess you were reckless and destroyed it,” he said

“I wish that was the case but no, I sold it so we could come here,” she replied remembering the moment she decided to sell her most precious possession

“You’re family is bad luck, first the business goes bankrupt and now your husband is gone. So, I hope you understand that your family will have to stay here for awhile and distance yourself from us especially our children. Remember, you can eat after we have left the dining area and then tell your kids not to step down whenever there are visitors, if they found out a family like yours lives here this might ruin our reputation. And finally, pray to the gods for forgiveness and light some incense every day,” their relative said this to Chaerin’s mother who only bowed in apology.

Chaerin had heard everything accidentally and stormed out of the house. She couldn’t stand one more of it. Her hurried steps broke into a run, the skies began to darken and she knew it would rain any time now but she kept going. After all it’s better to be drenched in the rain rather than drenched in their hateful words. She didn’t know where else to go and just kept going.

“Chaerin-ah, where have you been? Why are you all wet?” Her mother asked as she came home late. She made up an excuse and went in her room to change her clothes. Sitting down a corner she thought for awhile hugging her knees.

Her thoughts went back earlier when after running so hard she stopped as she saw a huge sign in front of a store it said that they were buying 2nd hand musical instruments for a good price. The money from the piano and their own savings was enough to take them far away from here. Finishing her dinner she finally made up her mind. She is selling her beloved piano.

“Why did you do that Chaerin-ah? You're father went through so much just so you could keep it,” came her mother’s words after she found out about it.

“I’d rather sell it than have our family name humiliated by everyone here! Omma, why do you just let them say those things about us and accept it?” she said letting it all out.

“Chaerin’s right. I can’t take it anymore too. It’s like were a disease they try to avoid,” Jung woo added punching the wall as their mother broke down into tears again.

A few days later after convincing their mother they left Japan and set off to Korea to live a new life.

Reaching the hotel Chaerin fixed all GD’s files. She also took note of his schedule for tomorrow. They will be heading back to Korea and prepare for the company’s anniversary which meant a busy week ahead. Two hours later she knocked on GD’s door to give him his files, remind him of his next appointments and make his coffee. He opened the door lazily and dropped down the sofa. A couple of alcoholic bottles were on the table and a couple more on the living room. His suite was similar to hers the only difference was that hers had a cosy atmosphere while his was, well, as always, cold.

Placing the folders on the table she then started making his coffee. She was putting the sugar when she heard a thud behind her. Turning around she saw a huge pile of papers on the table which GD placed. He also took his laptop and opened it.

He looked at her saying, “We got work to do,”

Chaerin sat on GD’s table encoding important files on his laptop while GD sat opposite her reviewing some papers for the company’s upcoming projects. Chaerin wanted to work in her room to avoid GD since her troubled feelings about him seem to get worse but he declined and there’s nothing she can do about it.

“Yah, tell me honestly, what was the craziest thing I did last night other than the fact that I came to your room?” GD asked looking up from his papers. “I’m not going to fire you so just tell me,” he said seeing her hesitate.

“Honestly sir, other than the fact that you crashed my place you also tripped, bumped into things, jumped on my bed, said senseless stuff and-“ she stopped as he cut her off.

“Hold on, I jumped on your bed?” he asked in disbelief.

“Yes, I’m afraid you did,” she replied.

“What happened after that?” he asked further placing his papers down and leaned a bit forward to her.

“And then you… fell asleep. Don’t worry I won’t tell anyone,” she said, quickly busying herself again.

GD eyed her curiously but then went back to his papers relieved that nothing else happened. “Just make sure about that,” he said before getting up and answering his phone.

Chaerin left GD’s room after finishing all of the work he gave her. She closed his door and leaned on it. “Maybe I should just forget everything,” she said to herself after remembering again what happened last night
.

“Lee Chaerin… you’re… what I need,” GD said before closing his eyes and leaning on her, his head on her shoulders.

“Mr. Kwon, wake up. You can’t sleep here,” Chaerin said shaking him. She carefully slipped away from him getting off the bed when he held on to her wrist and pulled her back down. He pulled her so hard that she fell down, her back on the bed and before she knew it he rolled on top of her and kissed her on the lips. She struggled beneath him trying to push him away but he won’t budge. He’s other hand held her wrist while his other hand gently caressed her hair sending goosebumps all over her body. His lips then gently moved to her cheeks then her ear.

“Stay with me. Don’t ever… leave my side Chaerin,” he whispered breathing softly in her ear making her stop struggling.“Fighting is useless because… I’m not… letting you go,” he kissed her again returning to her lips and after awhile she responded to him, kissing him back. In that moment she couldn’t stop herself, her heart was beating like crazy, something she never felt before. Then he stopped as she realized that he has finally drifted to sleep still on top of her. Pushing him to the side, she thought of leaving but then his arm went around her waist hugging her. She looked back at him. They stayed like that for a long time. He was warm and his embrace was comfortable, it was making her sleepy. For the first time ever since their life came falling apart she felt secure as if nothing and no one would ever hurt her anymore.

That night his face was the last thing she saw before her eyes and mind gave way to sleep.

Chapter 9
GD got down his private jet, straightening his polo shirt and adjusting his sunglasses. They’ve just arrived in Seoul from Jejudo. He waited impatiently for his car as he kept on running his hands through his hair and sighing heavily. Behind him Dong Hyun was happily talking to Chaerin about the memories and souvenirs they bought in Jejudo.

“Could the both of you just shut up. It’s too noisy,” GD grumbled not wanting to hear any more of it. The both of them kept quiet as the car finally arrived in front of them.

From the airport they went directly to the company because of GD’s workaholic attitude. They also need to attend to the upcoming company anniversary project. A night of glamour and socializing is bound to take place 3 weeks from now. It will also be the event were the new clothing line branded as “Cielo” will be presented. It will be GD’s first major project for the year so it has to be the best and not only that the CEO of the company Mr. Kwon Gun Soo, GD’s uncle will be arriving from the U.S.A

The whole office staff was busy planning for the major event of the year. And this time GD was again in a bad mood.

“What kind of suggestion is this?” he yelled at them throwing all the papers in front of him. GD looked as if he was to tear the whole building down as he charged off throwing more orders.

“Mr. Kwon looks really mad,” Chaerin blurted out as they ate at the company’s cafeteria.

“Mad? Isn’t he always like that?” So Ra said before sipping her juice.

“No, This one is different. He locked himself in his office today and hasn’t ordered any coffee,” Chaerin defended.

“It’s because of the upcoming event,” Dong Hyun cut in. “The stakes have gotten higher because the CEO will be coming,” he continued.

“You mean Mr. Kwon’s uncle?” Chaerin said. “I haven’t got the chance to meet him yet,” she looked at So Ra and Dong Hyun’s expressions. “Is there something I have to know?” sensing that they knew something.

“Well, our CEO Gun Soo and Vice-president Ji Yong don’t really get along. Although, VP Ji Yong grew up in his care they aren’t that close. Everybody knows VP Ji Yong gets weak in front of the CEO,” So Ra said.

“The CEO is much like VP Ji Yong but he’s more quiet and composed. As far as I know VP Ji Yong keeps working hard for the CEO to be pleased with him but it seems like it has never happened. He once said that VP Ji Yong was a big disappointment,” Dong Hyun explained to Chaerin who now understood why GD is a perfectionist. All these years all he only wanted was his uncle’s approval.

The day was ending yet GD was still in his office working. Chaerin glanced at him through the glass wall of his office. She wondered if he has eaten anything. Since she couldn’t enter because the door was locked she grabbed her phone and sent him a message even though she knew she might get yelled at for intruding in his work.

GD’s phone vibrated alerting him of an incoming message. He opened it seeing who it was.

Message: Sir what do you want to eat?
Fr: “YOU” (secretary)

Chaerin fixed the papers that GD has to sign for approval when her phone sounded.

Message: You know what I like now hurry and get me something.
Fr: "Crazy Vice-president”

Chaerin stood up immediately and went outside to get some food not even bothering to answer So Ra when she asked where she was going. She was scanning the street for a good restaurant when an idea came to her. She dialled Min Hee’s phone number.

“Unnie, it me Lee Chaerin, I want to order food.” She said as Min Hee took her order. She added that it had to be delivered real quickly.

After a couple of minutes Min Hee came in a small delivery scooter.

“Chaerin-ah, here it is. Looks like you’re really hungry today, too much work?” Min Hee asked seeing how Chaerin quickly asked her to come.

“Ah, unnie it’s not that, my boss is going to starve himself to death if he doesn’t take anything today,” she said quickly taking the packed meal from Min Hee.

“Your boss? You mean that crazy guy you met at the restaurant?” Min Hee asked doubtfully. “Didn’t you hate that guy so much? Well, if he’s dying then so be it.” She said taking back the packed meal in Chaerin’s hands.

“Unnie!” she exclaimed grabbing back the meal immediately from Min Hee and giving her the payment. “Thank you so much, I owe you one!” Chaerin said rushing back inside the building.

Chaerin reached GD’s office knocking when she realized it was already unlocked. She turned the knob and went in. GD now sat at the sofa of his office, his head dropped low and his hands clasped together.

“Sir?” Chaerin asked afraid he’d suddenly unleash hell.

She moved closer to him, her hand slowly reaching his head. He was warm and sweating.

“Sir, you have a fever!” she said as GD laid back at the sofa breathing heavily, his eyes were closed.

Chaerin went immediately to his side, taking her handkerchief she gently wiped his sweat off his forehead. Her face covered with concern. “Sir, I’m going to call the driver. We’re going to the hospital,” she said getting up to call the driver.

“Don’t,” GD held her hand. “Don’t tell anyone,” GD said weakly, he slowly sat straight up and took the meal Chaerin placed on the table.

“But sir—“

“Chaerin, don’t” he said as he continued opening the packed meal.

She stopped as she heard him call her Chaerin for the first time instead of “you” or her whole name. It meant that he was serious in not wanting anyone to know.

“Then I’ll just go buy some medicine,” she said hurrying outside when So Ra stopped her.

“Chaerin-ah what’s going on?” she asked worried about Chaerin rushing in and out of the building.

“Unnie, would you do me a favour? If someone looks for the Vice-president tell them he isn’t available, okay?”

“A-alright, but where are you going again?” she asked as Chaerin ran to catch the elevator.

“Somewhere!” she yelled before the elevator closed.

After seeing a medical pharmacy Chaerin walked inside and bought some medicine for GD.

“Miss! You forgot your change,” the pharmacist said before Chaerin could head out the door.

“Oh right, thank you,” she said taking the change and left.

Bringing the medicine she went back to GD’s office. He was still on the sofa resting, the meal she bought was only half finished.

“Sir, you have to eat some more,” Chaerin said sitting down beside him and taking the meal. She took a spoonful of it and gave it to him.

“I’m not a little boy,” he said angrily turning his head away and pushing Chaerin’s hand away from him. The spoon fell from Chaerin’s grasp and hit the floor. “Just give me the medicine and leave,” With this Chaerin quietly got up and left GD to himself.

At the sound of the door closing GD opened his eyes. He looked at the medicine Chaerin bought for him, he then weakly pulled the small pillow at his right, it was then that he saw the Chaerin’s handkerchief which she used to wipe his sweat. He held it as he muttered if ever it was clean enough to wipe it on his face.

The truth was he has always disliked the idea of people seeing him vulnerable. He knew that everyone hated him and that seeing him in such state would only make them happier. He grew up with having no one so this wasn’t the first time that nobody knew he was sick. But somehow a small part of him wanted to feel being cared for. Maybe, it was the reason why he chose to unlock the door for Chaerin to know. He did expect her to buy him medicine and act all concerned but then he didn’t seem to be ready for it so he chose to be alone again.

“Why'd she have to care for someone like me anyway?” he thought closing his eyes again.
He decided to sleep it all off when the door opened again making him sit up straight.

Chaerin came in and locked the door and this time she brought another spoon. Walking right over to him she took the meal again,

“Hey you, I don’t care if you yell or throw stuff at me but what will happen if this gets worse and you die? How the hell am I going to pay all my debts? Would that mean that I still have to work for you in the afterlife? Well, I’d rather die again. And besides, I have yet to prove to you that I also know fashion so you better swallow your huge lump of pride and eat,” she said sitting beside him, she scooped the meal and put it right in front of his lips.

GD remained motionless but then opened his mouth and ate the food, he stared at her still a bit stunned. He chewed it for awhile before speaking, “You’re lucky you owe me money that's why I can’t fire you,” he muttered before he took in another spoonful. After most of the employees got home, GD with Chaerin’s help finally went out his office and headed for home.

The morning came as GD got down the stairs. This time he felt better than yesterday and was able to move around without getting wobbly as he went to the dining table to eat breakfast. Chaerin had already left for work to give some of GD’s orders to the staff and finish some business papers, leaving him his breakfast at the table. GD finished his meal before calling his driver and heading off somewhere. He then stopped by a shop and entered it to buy.

The day was almost ending when Chaerin suddenly received a message.

Message: Come home early. The house is a mess and I need my coffee.
Fr: “Crazy Vice-president”

Chaerin was about to answer him back when her phone rang.

“Oppa, why’d you call?” she asked surprised to hear Jung Woo’s voice.

“Chaerin-ah, Omma, she is…”

GD sat on the couch reviewing the plans for the company’s anniversary. He stopped for awhile as he got tired and closed his eyes. He then felt hungry as he looked at the clock. It was already 8:30 in the evening but Chaerin wasn't there yet.

“Where the hell is she?” he asked looking at the door. His stomach was already grumbling but still no sign of Chaerin. He finally went to the kitchen to find something to eat.

3 hours passed by and Chaerin wasn’t home yet. GD had already watched TV, played darts, cleaned the house twice but still nothing. GD finally sat back on the sofa and stared at the piano he bought earlier this morning. He then took his phone dialling her number but then he shut it off feeling stupid. He paused for a few moments and then decided to just send her a message.

Message: Where are you? Come here right now or you’ll be dead.
Fr: “Crazy Vice-president”

Chaerin had just read the message but she was too weak to answer it. She only stared at it for a few minutes before it rang. She answered it.

“Hello,” her voice was soft and weak.

“Hey you, do you know what time is it now? Where in the world are you?” came GD’s very irritated voice.

“I’m scared,” was all Chaerin managed to say softly.

She sat at the waiting area of the hospital as doctors and nurses rushed in and out passing by her. There were sounds of an ambulance coming and the intercom calling for a doctor needed in the O.R. but all Chaerin could hear right now is the sound of her own heartbeat. She stared hard on the ground unable to even stand up. The other line was now dead as GD hanged up. Of course, it was just likely for him not to care. Chaerin lowered her phone and remained rooted to her spot staring blankly her hands shaking.

Chaerin didn’t even know what time it was or what happened around her. Her brother wasn't around since he had to get some cash for their mother’s hospital bills. All she thought about was her mother suddenly collapsing and was rushed to the hospital. It was then that all those hurtful words she heard before got right back to her.

“You’re family is bad luck…”

“… if they found out a family like yours lives here this might ruin our reputation.”

“All bad things happen to their family, must be karma coming back at them because of what their father did…”

“they have become a shame to the high-class society, what a pity…”

Chaerin thought she would faint right there when a warm object touched her face. It was a warm can of hot chocolate. She looked up to see GD holding it and handing it over to her.

“Look at you, all weak and pathetic. Now, hurry up and drink this,” he ordered opening the warm can and pressing it on her lips. “Should we talk about how to swallow your huge lump of pride or you’re going to drink this and eat?” he said in his usual cold tone. On his other hand he held a packed meal.

Chaerin took the can and drank the warm liquid. It was then that she realized how hungry she already was. GD sat beside her and opened the meal he bought.

“Don’t put any weird meanings about this it’s just that I haven’t paid for the meal and medicine you bought yesterday, so here it is,” he said handing over the packed meal, not looking directly at her.

Chaerin took it and began to eat.

“Look, whoever that person is he/ she is going to be okay, that's what you should always think so stop acting like a weak little girl and if ever you go on pulling this stunt again I’m serious, you’re going to be dead,” he said in a frustrated tone.

“Thank you… for being here,” Chaerin said. She still felt weak but this time she knew she was going to be alright.

“Whatever, don’t be late tomorrow. I really hate hospitals…” GD grumbled getting up and starting to leave, sensing the awkward atmosphere.

He left as Jung Woo finally came back to Chaerin.

“Chaerin-ah, guess what our hospital bills have just been paid.” Jung Woo said excitedly.

“What? How?” she asked puzzled.

“Didn’t you call your company? They said it’s a health benefit from the company your working, the Kwon International Group of Companies,” he said while Chaerin got up and looked back at GD who was now getting in his car.

“What’s wrong?” Jung Woo asked.

“Nothing,” Chaerin said finally smiling

Chapter 10
Part 1

It was early in the morning when Chaerin got home from the hospital. Her mother was now in good condition, the doctors have said that it wasn’t anything serious. She has regained consciousness and like any mother she immediately told Chaerin not to worry about her and go back to work. After insisting to stay a bit longer Chaerin finally left and went to her home and got dressed. She decided to rest for a few hours and just head directly to the company and work doubly hard in return of GD paying for her mother’s hospital bills.

Back at the company GD was already intent of preparing for the launch of the new clothing line, he had went to the company at an early hour and made a few calls to the suppliers. He was in a middle of another call when the door opened and a smell of warm coffee wafted through the room. Turning around he saw Chaerin bringing him a cup of coffee and placing it in his table.

Chaerin also placed some folders on to his table and turned to leave when an object caught her eye. It was a lollipop and not just any ordinary lollipop it was her favorite brand. She once remembered buying lots of it back then. The strange thing was it was only sold in Japan, much to her disappointment when she came to Korea. With her curiosity building up she wanted to ask GD were he got it wondering if there was a specific store that sold the same kind. She then waited patiently for him to put down the phone which he did minutes later.

“What do you want?” GD asked reviewing the folder she placed on his table.

“Uhmm, sir I just want to ask where you bought this?” she said holding the lollipop innocently in front of him.

GD looked up seeing the lollipop and in a matter of seconds he took it away from her.

“At a store of course, now get out of here and go back to work,” he said coldly.

Chaerin tried to press further but he shut her out. She finally left sensing he’s annoyance rising at the topic.

“Why can’t he just answer a simple question?” she thought getting irritated as well by his reaction. Shrugging it off she just continued to work.

Later on that evening Chaerin and GD arrived at the villa. Chaerin felt like she could just crash the bed and sleep immediately due to the slowly growing work load but still she had to prepare dinner for GD. She headed off to the kitchen as GD sat on the couch and turned on the TV. Minutes later the cooking is done and ready to eat. They sat on both opposite ends of the table eating quietly.

“Sir,” Chaerin began.

“What now?” GD asked while slicing the meat off his plate.

“You never mentioned how long I am going to work for you here, I mean when can I go back home?” she asked gently and looking at him expectantly.

“When my chef comes back,” he answered.

“And when is your chef coming back?” she asked slowly.

“In 5 years,” he replied simply.

Chaerin almost choked as she suddenly drank water and cleared her throat.

“5 years?” she asked in disbelief. All she had in mind was to stay for a couple of months or maybe the longest would be for a year. But 5 years was just too much for her to handle. It would mean 5 years being with GD every single day. Truthfully, she really didn’t know how she felt about it. Half of her felt okay with it, while the other half felt troubled.

“Yes 5 years but then I’m not that sure if he’ll ever come back,” he said still emotionless.

“Won’t be coming back?” she asked wondering if she heard wrong. Somehow, when he said that she suddenly had an uncomfortable feeling as if she just got married. Living with a man for the rest of her life was in her list of plans for the future but not this way.

She was in the middle of planning what to do next when GD finally got up and spoke,

“You, after you clean the table come to the living room. You have work to do,” he said leaving.

She sighed feeling as if a tornado was happening inside her head. “I work at the office all day, cook for him, and now he still wants me to work at night,” she said still worrying about the 5 or forever years she will spend doing all this stuff. She then stopped as she dropped her head thinking of the worst thing about this setup.

“If I have to stay here longer and see you every day, how am I suppose to erase what I’m slowly feeling for you,” she said softly to herself.

Getting up Chaerin cleaned the plates as she slowly dragged herself to the living room. She stood in front of GD waiting for his orders.

He finally looked up at her and said, “Go ahead and play,” he pointed at the white colored piano he bought yesterday.

She looked at the direction he was pointing at and suddenly all of the stress and worry vanished away. Her face brightened seeing the grand piano. She came closer to it like a little girl who just found a new toy.

“Can I really play it?” she asked her tone almost pleading.

“Do you think I bought that for display? I’d rather have you playing that thing here rather than going out and doing something lowly like singing to the public for money,” he said remembering the scene he saw when they were at Jejudo.

“That’s you’re new job since you know to play that thing, do something soothing. I can’t sleep,” he said as Chaerin happily ran her fingers to the piano not minding any of GD’s cold remarks or the extra work as long as it is playing the piano.

The night ended as GD finally drifted to sleep at the couch. Taking a warm blanket Chaerin placed it around him. He really was different when he was asleep, his cold look would vanish and be replaced by warmth only she saw.

“You’re really not as bad guy after all,” she said as she bent down and without thinking she kissed him gently on forehead. She backed a few steps realizing what she just did feeling really embarrassed all of a sudden. She immediately went back to her room and smacking her forehead a few times.

Weeks passed by and the venue is now being fixed. The lights, sounds, models, furniture and food have all been arranged, everything was going as planned.

Sir, the invitations will be released later and the media has also been notified,” So Ra reported to GD.

“The models are now being prepped up for their routines, sir,” Dong Hyun said.

“The clothes are finished and are ready for viewing, sir,” another employee reported.

GD nodded lightly and made a few orders while Chaerin wrote all of them.

“I want to look at the clothes later and I’ll be checking the menu for the event tomorrow,” he said getting up to leave.

A day before the event GD could not calm down. He paced several times looking at the papers over and over again making sure all goes well tomorrow. His eyes landed on the alcoholic beverage in front of him. Taking the glass he poured himself a drink and sipped it. Not working at all he just put it down again and walked to the window. He stared outside for couple of minutes thinking of what was bound to happen tomorrow.

“Sir, is there anything else you need,” Chaerin said interrupting his thoughts.

“I don’t know,” he said closing his eyes for awhile.

“Everything is going to work out well tomorrow because you’re Kwon Ji Yong. You are the best. Vice-president, fighting!” She said with a smile making him open his eyes again.

“That seriously is the most lame cheer I’ve ever heard,” he said stopping himself from smiling at how childish it was.

“Alright I can do better than that,” she said as she cheered all again and again for him. Oddly enough her words seem to give him comfort. He never was cheered for in his life and it wasn’t so bad after all. Actually, it felt quite good.

He ordered her to shut up and go to sleep because his stomach was hurting from trying to stop his laughter. She then immediately stopped and walked back to her room muttering about how pessimistic of a guy he was.

The next day came as Chaerin woke up from the loud knock on her door. She opened her eyes and sat up quickly. It wasn’t time to prepare breakfast yet which made her moan in protest. “What could he want this time?” she thought.

Walking up to the door she opened it to find a woman standing. She wore glasses and looked like she was in her 30s.

“Is there anything I can do for you?” Chaerin asked wondering if she might be GD’s relative.

“My name is Mun Ji Yoo, I will be your personal stylist for today,” she said signalling for her assistants to come as they set up their things. “Mr. Kwon has asked us to come and fix you up,”

Chaerin was left speechless as she listened to the woman speak.

“Where is Mr. Kwon?” she asked.

“He went out to get a new style for his hair,” the stylist replied.

Chaerin excused herself for a moment and closed the door. She could already see the very long and busy day ahead of her. Does he really have to have me styled, it’s not like I’m going to be noticed there? She thought.

Chapter 10 Part 2
The evening came as the guests started to come, getting down from their luxury cars. The reception was filled with photographers as they took shots of important people who passed by. There were high-end socialites, business tycoons and top celebrities some of which are GD’s friends. As the guest entered the main hall they are greeted by a huge chandelier hanging on top of the ceiling. The waiters served them with wine and Italian delicacies. The theme of the event was “Italian red” hence the venue was filled with red and black. The guests were all clad in their Italian concept dresses in red and black. Meanwhile, fashion journalists observed taking note of everything, ready to make their open criticisms.

GD finally arrived in his black limousine sporting his new blonde hair making him standout from the rest. He wore a dark red suit and paired it with a black necktie and cool dark sunglasses. He walked confidently as people stopped and stared in admiration for the young heir of the Kwon International Group of Companies. Photographers took countless pictures of him which will be published on fashion magazines and even in the daily newspapers. He continued to walk inside greeting his guests and meeting new potential business partners. He was in the midst of socializing with his friends and mingling with the women when the crowd suddenly hushed as the CEO, GD’s uncle arrived. Behind him were his assistants and personal bodyguards. He stepped inside with bringing with him an intimidating aura. He stopped to pose for the cameras before looking around the event hall as if he was an FBI inspector. He frowned a bit before sitting down and ordering wine.

GD eyed him carefully. It has been almost a year since he saw him due to his business ventures in the USA. Feeling the pressure building up he drank the whole glass of wine before walking away from his uncle’s eyesight. Scanning the room, he began to wonder where his personal assistant is when a woman came near him. it was the stylist he assigned to fix Chaerin.

“Mr. Kwon, we have a slight problem,” she said biting her lower lip and looking really apologetic.

“Where is she?” he asked immediately hoping it won’t have anything to do with her.

“Well, actually, earlier we did her make-up and hair then gave her the dress you bought but then she suddenly… disappeared,” the stylist lowered her head unable to look at GD.

“What?!” he blurted out almost yelling but then stopped himself when he remembered that there were guests. He looked away taking off his sunglasses to rub his temples. “You mean to say that my personal assistant is missing right now. Now, in this very important event,” he slowly said stressing the “very”.

His stylist looked down hesitating to answer, “I’m sorry sir,”

GD was silent for a few seconds until he regained his composure and spoke again. “Missing or not this event will still continue,” he took another glass of wine from the waiter. “Call Dong Hyun, I want to know how everything is holding up,” GD took a sip of the wine looking really disappointed. People tried to talk to him but he was not in the mood and just excused himself.

“Where’d you go?” he thought finishing his 2nd glass of wine.

Dong Hyun was backstage checking all the lights and sounds. Everything was going smoothly, for now. On the other hand So Ra was ushering the guests to their designated seats when a man came to her and whispered something to her. Whatever he said didn’t seem good since So Ra’s smiling face slowly changed to concern. She hurried over to Dong Hyun to tell him the bad news.

“Are you serious? The band can’t come?” he said a wave of panic filling in him.

“I don’t know anything but they say there’s been an accident or something like that,” she wailed her hands flailing in the air.

“This is bad. Where’s Chaerin anyway?” he asked looking around.

“I haven’t seen her yet. Wait, I’ll just give her a call,” quickly taking her phone and dialling Chaerin’s phone number. Fortunately, after a few rings Chaerin picked it up.

“Chaerin-ah, where are you?” We have a really big problem going on here,” So Ra said her voice rising.

“Unnie, I’m almost there. What’s the problem? She asked worried.

“We don’t have a band something happened now we don’t have any music,”

“Okay, okay, relax, I’ll figure something out,” Chaerin reassured her before closing her phone. She thought for awhile until an idea crossed her mind. She dialled a number hoping that their available right now. A male voice answered.

“Keito, it’s me Rin. Are you in Korea right now?” she asked speaking in Japanese.

After a couple of minutes Chaerin ended the call relieved and dialled another number. This time it was a female who answered.

“Unnie, its Chaerin, I need your help,” she said hoping to find a solution.

Back at the event GD now sat inside a waiting room. He has already been informed about the current situation and it wasn’t good. He held his 3rd glass of wine griping it tightly. Earlier, he has asked all of his staff to leave him alone. It was just useless to yell at them one by one since there’s nothing he can do about it. He knew now was that in a few minutes the event shall start and the models will be hitting the ramp without music, something that has never happened before. Dong Hyun had already rushed out to find anything to improvise the music.

GD contemplated for awhile before finally standing up to start the program which was being delayed for 10 minutes. He has already made a decision to bear the consequences and take all the responsibility for the failure of the “CIELO” clothing launch. After the event he was sure to receive negative criticism especially from his uncle. Nevertheless, he put back his sunglasses, straightened his shirt and held his head up high. Before he could walk out he took out from his pocket the most valuable possession he has kept since he was 7 years old, the lollipop he always brought around with him. it wasn't just an ordinary candy it was something that gave him strength. It held great importance to him. He looked at it for a few moments before putting it back in his pocket and opening the door to face his guests.

GD gave the signal to start the program despite their worried faces. The host went up to greet the guests and mention the presence of some important people present while So Ra pleaded to GD to wait for Dong Hyun to find music for the event but GD knew that either way it would still be bad for them being late because of technical problems. He then sat beside his uncle who already knew about the situation.

“Congratulations Ji Yong, you just gave the best clothing launch,” the CEO said sarcastically as GD silently sat expecting the worst.

The host then called the CEO on stage to give his few remarks. He stepped up on stage and said a few words about the company and all the hard work that he has contributed to the company. He also mentioned GD’s parents and dedicated the event in their honour. Before he left the stage he apologized for giving them a bad night which left the guests wondering what he meant.

The models were about to walk the runway as the lights shut off. After a few seconds the lights suddenly went up and a fountain of fireworks slowly showered at the side of the stage as the models started entering the stage displaying the dresses and accessories of the “CIELO” clothing line. Unexpectedly, the music went on as the left side of the stage raised up revealing the band with Chaerin in front singing the song.

GD raised his head up hearing Chaerin’s sweet and clear voice. The crowd whispered in excitement seeing Keito Takagi singing & playing the guitar, he is one of Japan’s famous guitarist and son of the CEO of a Japanese company. His bandmates were sons of Japanese politicians and company owners some of which have also established their name in the high-end society.

GD looked on still stunned to be hearing music but what stunned him more was Chaerin.

“What did she do with the dress?” the stylist exclaimed in awe looking at the dress which was altered making it look more dazzling than the original design, the slit at the side of Chaerin’s red dress exposed her legs. Black sparkles have also been added to the dress making a beautiful design.

“She even changed her hair,” the stylist told GD who only looked in silence. Chaerin’s hair was supposed to be tied at the back but she had let it fall loosely styling it with wavy look while little diamonds adorned her hair.

There are four sets of models that entered the stage. With each set of models the songs changed matching the different theme for each set. Before the last set of models walked the runway Chaerin handed the microphone to a woman for the next song and going over to play the piano. The crowd then clapped their hands seeing the well-known theatre performer, known as Luna Lee by her fans abroad.

“They sure spent a lot for this surprise numbers from top performers!” commented a critic enthusiastically.

The final female model now entered the stage escorted by GD himself as the red and black confetti showered over them. He bowed over to the crowd who stood up cheering and clapping for the very successful clothing launch of the company. He raised a glass of wine to the band who bowed to the crowd as well.

Apart from all the cheers his uncle remained seated eyeing Chaerin carefully as he noticed GD glancing to her and giving a rare smile which she acknowledged smiling back at him.

“Who is that girl? She looks very familiar,” he said to his assistant who took note of it.

The party started as the band kept playing with Keito singing in front. GD excused himself from the crowd of reporters and people who simply wanted to chat with him. He looked around spotting So Ra entertaining some of the guests. He went over to her and asked her where Chaerin was.

“Sir, she’s with Luna Lee at the lobby,” she answered.

Chaerin was saying her goodbyes to the famous theatre performer who had to still catch a flight to France for another performance next week.

“Unnie, thank you so much, I’m really sorry for calling you out of the blue,” Chaerin said apologizing for the tenth time.

“It’s nothing to me Chaerin, you know how much I owe your father for helping me finish college. Just tell me if you need me and I’ll be there for you, okay?” she said smiling and giving her a hug. “I’m so sorry about your dad he really was a great man. Don’t listen to what they say,” she said before walking off to her car.

“Why? What do they say?” GD asked behind her.

“Nothing,” Chaerin answered quickly. “Uhmm, I’m sorry for being late i just had to—“ she tried to explain but GD cut her off.

“You look lot better tonight,” he said before ordering her to follow him. “You’re my personal assistant yet you keep on disappearing,” he continued in an irritated tone as they walked back to the main hall. Chaerin smiled behind him feeling light after the positive comment. Entering the hall the people whispered seeing them thinking that Chaerin was GD’s new girlfriend.

Chaerin could feel the uncomfortable stares and immediately told GD that she had to go to the comfort room. it has been awhile since she was given so much attention that it all suddenly became new to her.

GD talked to some of his friends when his uncle came to him. He now felt more confident in front of him than before.

“It seems that luck is still on your side,” he said.

“It’s not luck. My angel came by and helped me out,” GD answered.

“Really, that’s interesting because I think you're angel has just arrived,” his uncle said pointing to the girl behind him.

GD turned around to see a young woman in a short red dress that hugged her body tightly showing her curves. Her hair was short and one could easily notice her expensive jewellery around her neck. She smiled brightly seeing GD and hurried over to him.

“Oppa!” she said hurrying over to give him a hug.

Chaerin just walked out of the comfort room when she saw GD being hugged by a young woman. She could also notice the satisfied look on his uncle’s face. Suddenly she felt like she was slapped in the face seeing GD with that woman.

“Oh, the bitch is back,” So Ra said coming close to Chaerin and noticing her stare at them.

“Who is she?” Chaerin asked surprised by the comment.

“Yoon Hye In, she is GD’s future fiancée,” she replied sighing as she remembered the time when Hye In came to the company giving all her demanding orders and rampant complaints.

“Fiancée?” Chaerin thought. Her heart was hurting and she couldn’t stop it from happening. It was then that she realized that she has completely fallen in love with GD. Unable to bear seeing them together she silently left wanting to breathe some fresh air outside.

“What are you doing here?” GD asked coldly to Hye In.

“Of course I’m here to support my fiancée,” she said simply before greeting GD’s uncle who gave her a light hug.

“And who said I was your fiancée? I’ve said it before that's not the woman I will marry,” GD said giving his uncle a dark look.

“Don’t tell me you're still waiting for your lollipop girl to come back? You’re childish love?” his uncle said as Hye In rolled her eyes.

“Ji Yong, sweetheart, It’s been a very long time already. You have to forget her and move on,” Hye In remarked.

“You were wrong. She came back and I will marry her,” GD said angrily trying to control himself.

His uncle came close to GD giving him a warning. “Forget that Chaerin of yours. You are marrying Hye In, she deserves you better than that girl,” his uncle hissed.

“I’ve made up my mind and nothing or no one can change that. Lee Chaerin will be my wife,” he said before storming out. He scanned the area looking for Chaerin until he bumped on to So Ra who informed him that she has already left.

“She wasn't feeling well,” So Ra said before asking if there is anything he needed but GD walked out angrily, called his driver and got into his car. He punched the cushion as his uncle’s words entered in his head. He then closed his eyes taking out the lollipop from his pocket as his mind travelled to the time when he was 7 years old.

“Ji Yong, omma and appa are going to Spain and attend a birthday party,” his mother said tenderly to him as his father came by.

“We have to go, we still have to buy a present for HyunWoo,” his father reminded his mother and then he gently touched the young Ji Yong’s head. “You have to be a good boy and drink your medicine so you can get well soon.” He said now talking to Ji Yong who sat on the bed unable to come with them because of his fever.

“Oh, by the way, do you know Hyun Woo has a cute little daughter,” his mother said to his father who agreed. Don’t you think she’d be a perfect match for a handsome Ji Yong? She said giggling at the thought.

“Our Ji Yong is still young,” his father said to his mother giving her a reprimanding look.

“Of course I know that. I was just thinking of the future,” she said smiling at him. “Do you know that his daughter can already play short pieces in the piano? What a very talented child!” she exclaimed.

Ji Yong’s father knelt down to talk to him. “Well, I like Ji Yong to meet her too so that he can have a playmate,” he said to his son. “Now, you have get well soon so that you can play with Chaerin, okay?”

“I want to meet her now,” Ji Yong said innocently his eyes pleading at them to take him to Spain.

“Look our son already likes her,” his mother said while his father looked at her helplessly unable to stop her from pairing his son his best friend’s little girl.

“Alright, we may never know, maybe when they grow up they might even like each other and besides, Hyun Woo is like a brother to me, his daughter could be the perfect girl for our Ji Yong,” his father said finally agreeing to his wife who was extremely delighted to hear it.

Okay, Ji Yong after you get well you can meet Chaerin. She’ll be your playmate from now on so that you’ll never be lonely whenever we’re not around.

That was the last time he saw his parents as they left for Spain to celebrate Lee Hyun Woo’s birthday, Chaerin’s father. At his parents funeral he sat in a corner crying hard. Nobody could comfort him until a small hand came up to him and gave him a lollipop. He suddenly stopped crying and looked at the little girl in front of him, she smiled at him and told asked him innocently why he was crying. He would have answered her but then her father called her.

“Chaerin-ah, we have to go now, say goodbye to Ji Yong,” her father said gently touching Ji Yong to give him comfort.

“Bye Ji Yong! I’ll come back later,” she said innocently smiling at him and waving him goodbye.

After that he stood looking at the window everyday waiting for her to return

Chapter 11

GD sat at the side of his bed. He just woke up and started thinking of last night. He wondered if Chaerin was alright since she left early saying she was not feeling well. She didn’t even tell him that she was leaving and when he got home she had already locked herself in her room.

Sounds came from downstairs which meant that she was already up. He finally stood up and went to find out if she was okay. She was busy cooking breakfast when he got down. Sitting on a chair he quietly waited for her to finish.

Chaerin didn’t sleep that well last night and not only that, once she did fall asleep her nightmares kept her awake. She dreamt of her father again and what had happened back in Japan. The morning came and she busied herself in preparing breakfast and since it was a Sunday she would be cleaning the house later. She was really focused on cooking thus she was unable to notice GD sitting behind her. At last, breakfast is done and ready to eat. She then turned around her heart almost jumping out at the sight of GD waiting behind her. She placed his breakfast in front of him and made him coffee like the usual.

“They said you weren’t feeling well last night but I still don’t think it’s an excuse to just leave your boss without saying anything. After all your job is to assist me and then you suddenly disappear. That’s unacceptable,”

“I’m sorry. Won’t happen again,” she said. Her back was towards him as she wiped the kitchen.

GD stopped eating and looked at her. At this point Chaerin would have debated about him being inhuman and insensitive. What was even strange was her flat tone far from her usual bright mood every morning. “You, if you’re still not feeling well go to the hospital. Germs will spread all over the place,”

“I’m fine,” she said before heading off to clean the living room.

GD finished eating and went to follow Chaerin at the living room. He brought with him his coffee cup and a newspaper. Sitting at the sofa he eyed her curiously as she cleaned. He then wiped his finger on the table.

“Look at this, there’s dirt here,” he complained as Chaerin went kneeling over to wipe the coffee table. She then stood up and continued dusting off the TV and the paintings not saying a word. After a few moments GD was at it again.

“Hey, stop that for awhile. My shoulders are aching, give me a massage,” he said stretching his arms.

Chaerin then stopped working and went behind GD. She began massaging his shoulders when memories of that night in Jejudo poured in. She suddenly stopped and lifted her hands immediately, slowly taking a few steps away from him.

“Hey, you call that a massage?” he said turning his head around to face her.

“I-I need to go buy something,” she said quickly leaving GD.

Chaerin walked away quickly from GD. She dashed out the villa walking fast before breaking into a run. She ran past houses and shops but she wasn't feeling exhausted because the pain covered for all of it.

“I cannot tell my heart to stop beating for him so all I can do right now is to run away,”

GD stared on where she left wondering what might have gotten in to her. She had been avoiding him and he wanted to know what the problem was. They were okay last night and so far he hasn’t thanked her yet for the help she gave him. “Could that be the reason?” he thought to himself.

“You’re what?!” Min Hee almost yelled as Chaerin pulled her back down to sit. They were behind the restaurant’s counter chatting when Chaerin confessed about her feelings for GD.

“Unnie, would you please calm down for a second it’s not like it’s the end of the world,”

“Okay I’ll calm down, just please tell me that you’re kidding,”

“Unnie…” Chaerin said giving her a hopeless look.

“Oh God… this is not good Chaerin-ah. Why don’t you stop working for him then? He's engaged!”

“Well, if only I could but our situation’s a bit complicated,” she replied burying her face with her hands.

“No way, did something happen between the both of you? Did he get you pregnant?” Min Hee exclaimed standing up again.

“Definitely not!” Chaerin pulled her back down again.

“Then what kind of situation are you in?

Chaerin explained to her why she ended up working for him at his house. The money she owed him and what he did to those loan sharks.

“Wow, I must admit that was pretty sweet of him,” she stated after Chaerin told the whole story. “Is that why you fell for him?” she asked smiling.

“Well, I really don’t know when. It just happened.”

“You mean, the wanting to see him all the time, be with him, he’s always on your mind, and the endless worrying about him. I must say, you seem to like bad boys coz that guy is seriously E-vil,”

“Stop that. What should I do then?” Chaerin asked.

“There’s one solution to that. Date somebody else,”

“Date?”

“Yes, date. I could introduce you to some handsome guys,” Min Hee said excitedly winking at her.

“How sure are you that dating somebody else would make me forget him?”

“Honestly, I really can’t tell but what I’m sure about is that a one-sided love will only end painfully and that would be on your end,” she said looking at her apologetically and putting her arm around her. “I’m sorry Chaerin-ah, that’s the truth,”

The next few days came with Chaerin completely avoiding GD. The only time he’d get to see her was when he ordered something in his office after that she’d quickly leave without saying anything. By the time he’d get down for dinner everything was prepared at the table with a note saying she had to go somewhere. Every night she’d get back at a very late hour. It went on for days then it turned into weeks. This time he figured that there is something more behind it and he wanted to know what it is straight from her. He immediately got down hearing her get back from wherever she has been.

“Where have you—“he stopped, seeing that it wasn’t Chaerin but Hye In.

“Oppa, you I see you haven’t changed the code at your door,” she said walking over to him in her usual short dress and 7 inch heels. “I brought you something,” she said lifting a bottle of expensive beer. “Back then, I was too young to be drinking but now I can drink with you,”

“What are you doing here?" GD’s mood was slowly darkening.

“C’mon Oppa, I haven’t hanged out with you ever since I came back from the U.S.” she said cutely pouting at him. “I also heard that you don’t have a chef right now so I’ll cook for you,”

“Go home,” he said coldly turning away but she stopped him pulling his arm.

“You really haven’t changed. You’re still very rude but you know what? I really like that about you,” she said holding his face with both her hands and leaning over to give him a kiss when the door opened.

Chaerin just came back. She opened the door and saw GD and Hye In together. She quickly apologized and closed the door again before running to the side of the villa. She leaned on the wall sinking down and hugging her knees. Her heart was in pain again seeing them together locked in a kiss. She felt like crying but she knew better not to.

Back inside, GD swiftly pushed Hye In away from him. Her back hit the door as she yelped in pain.

“What’s wrong with you, Oppa?”

“Get out,” he said in a calm tone while pointing at the door.

“Oppa, you don’t have to be embarrassed just because your maid saw us besides we’re engaged,”

“Get out,”

“Wait till I tell uncle about this,” she said rolling her eyes and fixing her dress.

“Get out before I could hurt you and drag you all the way out,” he’s voice raised up making her jump in surprise, his eyes staring coldly at her.

She finally gave up and left banging the door and getting in her car. Hearing her car leave GD went out to find Chaerin. He looked around until he heard a soft noise somewhere around the house. Coming closer he saw her sitting at a corner rubbing her shoulders to keep herself warm.

“You,” he said making her stand up quickly.

“I’m sorry. I really didn’t mean to interrupt. Is there anything you want?” she bowed at him unable to look at him directly.

“Get inside. It’s cold out here,” he said taking her hand and dragging her inside.

His hands were surprisingly warm and his voice showed a hint of concern but she dismissed the idea that he was worried for her because it was just impossible. They entered the house as he released her and turned around to face her.

“Sit down,” he commanded. She sat at the sofa waiting to be reprimanded for barging in their romantic night. She could already hear him yell and throw cold hurtful words at her. Somehow, she thought that it would be a good thing for her since it would easily erase everything she felt for him. But things didn’t head that way as a box appeared right in front of her.

“Don’t just stare at it. Take it.” He said handing it over to her. She took the box and held it carefully.

“What is this?”

He then opened the box immediately revealing a pair of black high heeled shoes designed with sparkling diamonds at the center. Chaerin remained speechless upon seeing the shoes. Back at Japan she spent her free days shopping and one thing she loved to shop for are shoes. As of today she only has 2 pairs of shoes (one of them was the one she wore to the CIELO event). The only 2 pair of shoes left from the huge collection of shoes she once had. All of which hold great value to her, one was a present from her father and the other one from her best friend.

She looked back at GD wanting to know what the shoes are for. “Do you want me to clean them?” she asked, thinking that it was for his fiancée.

GD only sighed looking up with his hands on his hips. He then bent down and took the shoes from the box and knelt down to untie Chaerin’s sneakers.

“What—“ she started to protest and stop him but she discontinued as he put the black high heeled shoes on her and adjusting the strap.

“Sir… these shoes… you’re giving them… to me?”

“You better take care of them or I’ll add this to your debt,” he grumbled as he stood up to leave.

“Why? What are these for?” she asked slowly as she stood up, confused as to why he’d suddenly give her expensive shoes when as a matter of fact he should be reprimanding her or something.

“The event… you…” he mumbled, eating his words.

“What?” she asked, unable to understand what he just said.

“The event… I just… THANK YOU,” he finally blurted out making it loud enough for her to hear.

The room was filled with silence as they both got awkward towards each other until GD broke the cold atmosphere.

“Wear it tomorrow,” he said before walking off to his room.

Chaerin sat back down the sofa trying to digest what just happened, the proud and arrogant GD thanking her and giving her expensive shoes. She stared at her feet again seeing the shoes he himself placed on her. She stared at them for awhile as she found herself a few years back when her father was still alive.

“Chaerin hurry up. We’re going to be late for the party,” her mother reminded her.

“Yes, I’m almost done!” she replied quickly putting on her earrings. She started walking down the stairs when one of her heels gave way. She picked it up and sat at the sofa realizing that she hasn’t strapped it in properly. She began fixing it when her father came to her. He knelt down and fixed it himself.

“Appa, I can do this by myself,” she chuckled seeing as she was already 18 years old.

“Just let me do it. You know that you’re my only daughter. Besides, in the future the person who would do this for you will be the man who loves you but for now it’ll be me.” He said as he adjusted the strap of her heels.

“Isn’t that too much? It’s not like I’m a little girl,” she said wondering if there was such guy.

“It’s because I want him to love you that much. Even with just a simple gesture like this. I want you to be with a man who’ll take care of you to that extent. You deserve someone like that.” He said now looking up to her.

Chaerin looked at him, touched by his sweet words she embraced him. “I may meet him in the future but still no one can compare to you, appa,” she whispered to him as her mother called on them to hurry up.

Chapter 12

Part 1

Monday has arrived, the day every employee dreaded. It would only mean back to work after a relaxing weekend. Chaerin followed GD behind as they both entered the elevator of the company building. She was in the midst of informing him about his schedule for the day and was down to the last meeting.

“Do I have any evening appointments?”

“Sir, you have a dinner appointment with Miss Yoon Hye In,” she answered him.

“Cancel it,” he said immediately.

“Sir?”

“I said cancel it. You should get your ears cleaned,” he said as he glanced at her feet seeing the shoes he gave her. Chaerin had also worn the clothes GD bought for her along with the dress she wore at the CIELO event. He actually bought her a lot since he just can’t let a day pass without complaining about how she was the first thing that his clients will see before they enter his office so she has to look presentable.

GD finally entered his office as his staff greeted him. On the other hand Chaerin went to the office kitchen to make him his coffee. After serving it to him she stepped out of his office when So Ra came to her.

“Is that what I think it is?” she said pointing at the shoes she was wearing.

“Ah, these? Their just a gift,” she replied.

“Gift? From whom? Those shoes are of limited edition from the CIELO clothing line. I heard Mr. Kwon designed it himself. There are only 6 pieces for sale and not only that they are sold in only red and white colors, well, except for one,” she finished, eyeing Chaerin’s shoes.

“You mean… the black one,” she said looking down the black heels she was wearing.

“The black one wasn't sold out in public because Mr. Kwon didn’t want it to. It is actually a bit different from the other 5 shoes in terms of design and it seems that it holds a great significance to Mr. Kwon himself, so, everybody thought he was saving it for Yoon Hye In. But why is that with you?” She said looking in awe at the beautiful pair of heels.

“Well I—“

“He gave it to her because if it weren’t for Chaerin the CIELO event may have turned into a disaster,” Dong Hyun cut in as he got ready to enter GD’s office and report about their current sales. “And besides, it looks nice on her anyway unlike the others,” he said smiling at So Ra and teasing her.

“Look at this guy smiling. Does he think that he’s cute or something?” So Ra muttered eyeing him annoyingly.“You wait till I wear expensive heels,”

“I’d rather not,” he retorted jokingly before entering GD’s office.

Chaerin smiled sensing love bugs flying between her two close friends. “Monday doesn’t seem so bad after all,”Chaerin thought as she happily went back to her desk.

Lunch came as GD went out of his office to eat at some fancy restaurant those rich people go to. He glanced at his watch before turning around to see Chaerin busy scribbling on her desk. Moving closer he leaned over to look at whatever she was doing. Sensing someone she looked up only to see GD, his face inches away from hers. She quickly stood up almost stumbling backwards.

“Is…there a-anything you want, sir?” she said regaining composure. She just hated it when he did that, there was even a point when she would be thinking of placing a bell around him so she’d know when he’d come around.

“I’m hungry,”

GD walked inside a five class restaurant. He looked like a celebrity with his dashing outfit and sleek black shades. A waiter escorted him to a reserved table where he stopped and turned around to signal Chaerin to come. She looked around hesitating for a moment but decided to just continue. As soon as she got to the table she noticed that it was only for two persons. At this time GD who sat at the opposite end was already looking at the menu and choosing what they would eat. Chaerin finally sat down.

“Mr. Kwon, I thought we’re attending a business lunch,”

“They cancelled at the last minute,” he said checking his phone.

“Then maybe I should be leaving then,” she said standing up.

“Sit down, the food’s been ordered. Do you want to pay for it or stay and eat?” his expression was calm while his eyes pierced through her making her sit back down again.

A couple of minutes passed and the food is served. Chaerin started to eat her high-class status slowly showing, something GD noticed.

“You must eat a lot in these restaurants. Seems that you know the proper etiquette,” he commented as he watched her closely.

“No, I just… learned all this in school,” she lied and GD knew. “I also read a lot of magazines about the rich and the famous, you know, out curiosity.”

GD continued asking her about various stuff, her hobbies, favorite musicians, books, and even about art which Chaerin could relate to since she was always invited in those prestigious art exhibits back in college.

“It’s just plain boring but you need to be there,” GD said about going to those social gatherings. He would remember his uncle dragging him to those events when all he wanted was to enjoy the cool summer breeze outside.

“Oh yeah, those gatherings. I never liked them either. I once escaped out of one and went to my favorite band’s concert,” Chaerin said smiling as she remembered the time when her father found out about it and grounded her for a week. “I shouldn’t have done that,” Chaerin continued, shaking her head.

“What you did was great. I would have done the same thing too. But I guess my uncle would have sent me to a military camp and shave my hair if I did that.” He replied when Chaerin burst out laughing at the idea of GD being bald and doing military exercises.

“It’s not funny, that's reality…” he defended but then gave in to laughter as Chaerin was covering her face from laughing so much. They settled after a few moments and continued savouring their lunch before GD spoke again. “I once slept in a musical event. My uncle almost slapped me because I was snoring loudly,” he said bringing in the laughter again. Chaerin never thought she would laugh this much again. It’s been a while since she enjoyed a good meal without worries.

“Where did Chaerin say she was going to have lunch?” Dong Hyun asked So Ra as they walked back to the company.

“The vice-president has a lunch meeting. Our poor friend must be suffering from his demands by this time. She might have not enjoyed the food even if it was at some classy restaurant,” So Ra said worriedly when Dong Hyun stopped her.

“Isn’t that Chaerin and…our vice-president?” Dong Hyun exclaimed.

“It is! But I thought it was a business lunch? Why is it only the two of them?” So Ra said crossing the street to get a better look but Dong Hyun pulled her back.

“Wait, do you think that they’re dating?” he asked her.

“Of course not, why would they?” she brushed it off until they saw them laughing and looking like they are having a good time. “Okay… that’s weird… tell me Dong Hyun-ah how many times have you seen the vice-president looking that happy?” she told him before they realized that both of them were still holding on to each other.

“Uhmm… never?” he answered as they tried to hide when Chaerin and GD got out of the restaurant. They got into the car and drove back to the company.

Inside GD’s car they both were silent again. They’ve finished lunch and now heading back to the company.

“We’re going somewhere tonight. You don’t have to cook dinner,” GD said as they got out of the car.

“Tonight? Do I really have to come? ” Chaerin answered, troubled over the thought.

“Of course, why? He suddenly asked making her feel uneasy.

"Sir, I… have plans tonight," she answered carefully.

"Tell me Chaerin where do go to every night?"

“Every night I...take short walks at the park. Well, I—I just have to go meet a friend tonight. It’s really important. Can I just come late?” Chaerin pleaded.

“Just make sure you’ll make it,” GD said before walking off, not satisfied with the reason she gave him
.

Chapter 12

Part 2

GD left first, he gave Chaerin a small note where the address of the place they had to go to was written in. He then reminded her to be there even if she were going to be late.

“Yes, sir,” Chaerin answered bowing at GD before going back to finish the remaining papers in her desk.

“Chaerin-ah,” So Ra called coming up to Chaerin.

“Unnie, what is it?”

“Uh… how was the lunch meeting earlier?” So Ra asked cautiously.

“It was boring, like always. They just talked about business the whole time,” Chaerin started cleaning her desk. “Unnie, I’ve got to go now,” she said checking her watch.

“Where? You have date?”

“No, what made you say so?” she asked looking at So Ra. “You know I always rush out every day,”

“Well, nothing, just asking,” So Ra said nodding her head and glancing at Dong Hyun who was eyeing them at a corner.

Chaerin quickly went out checking her watch every 5 minutes. It was already past seven, she was practically late. After a while she got down the bus and entered a local bar.

“Chaerin, there you are! Hurry get up there,” the manager of the bar said.

“Yes sir,” she said fixing herself a bit before getting up on stage and joining the band.

In a few minutes they began to play music as the customers dined inside the bar. Chaerin had been working part-time at the bar, playing music for almost a month and only Min Hee knew about it. She had decided to take the job to earn money and pay GD the $600,000 she still owed him. She has long decided to this in order for her to pay him and disappear in his life.

"In a couple of months or probably weeks GD will be married to Yoon Hye In. The only way for me to forget him is to not see him and I can never do that unless I leave him for good. After I pay him I will resign from the company and move on with my life, without him,” Chaerin thought sadly as she played the piano and sang. Her happy moment with him earlier will only be part of the past now.

It was already 11 in the evening as GD sat patiently at a table waiting. The venue was located at a romantic and peaceful restaurant overlooking the city. There was only him and the several restaurant staff since he bought the whole place for the night. Above him are hanging and vine-like Christmas lights making it all the more breath-taking. His head hung low as he looked on a small box he held in his hand. He opened it showing an expensive diamond ring, it was beautifully custom-made which he helped in designing. Tonight he will make an honest confession.

“Sir, would you like to have some champagne for the mean time?” a waiter asked him.

“No, give me something stronger,” he said, his voice had a hint of disappointment. The clock kept ticking as the minutes passed but still no sign of her. He then took out his phone and dialled a number.

“But I still have somewhere important to go,” Chaerin said to the manager, she was getting impatient at the moment.

“I’m sorry Chaerin but a client of ours liked to talk to you, he seems to be impressed with you and he says that he would like to help you become a singer,” the manager explained.

“That would really be great but can’t this just wait. I really have to leave right now,” Chaerin said bowing and getting ready to leave when the client himself went to her.

“Hi, my name is Kim Kyung Ho and I’m a talent scout at YG entertainment,” he said reaching in his pocket to get a calling card and gave it to Chaerin. “Are you interested in becoming a singer?”

Chaerin’s phone rang and she picked it up.

“Where are you?” came GD’s voice. He didn’t sound good.

“Sir, I’m so sorry, things came up and I--”

“Where are you?” he asked again ignoring her excuses.

“I’m on my way there,” Chaerin answered as she was about to walk out of the bar when 3 men came her way.

“Hey pretty girl, you look a bit lonely,” one man said. He looked drunk and so were his friends.

Chaerin tried to avoid them and walk the other way but they cornered her. One of them held her arm as she tried to get away.

“Get off me!” Chaerin said kicking the guy. He was hit but it only angered him. He tried to slap her but GD came charging at them. He was really mad as he punched them hard again and again not sparing anybody. He didn’t care about anything else but hurting the drunk bastards. His eyes were dark and intense. Sensing trouble the bar’s employees ran and stopped him before he could kill them. The men ran away in fear.

GD roughly yanked his arm off the guys holding him and walked quietly outside the bar. Chaerin followed him reaching out for his hand.

“Sir,” she said touching him gently. He turned around to face her. She could notice a corner of his lip bleeding.

“What are you doing in a place like this?” he asked. His tone was mad and his cold eyes pierced through her.

“I work here part-time. I play and sing with the band,” Chaerin admitted knowing that she couldn’t hide it from him anymore.

“What? Isn’t your salary enough that you still have to go out and do part-time jobs? I told you not to sing in places like this, haven’t I?" he said angrily.

“My salary is actually good but…,” her voice trailed off not knowing whether she should tell him or not.

“But what? How many lies are you going to tell me Chaerin?”

His words left Chaerin speechless. It wasn’t like she wanted to lie to him. At that moment all she wanted was to run but there are times when you have to stop running and face the problem. If there is one thing to stop a broken heart that would be to replace love with hate.

“I’m doing this because I don’t want to work for you! I’m so tired with your constant demands and complaints. I’m doing this to pay you the money I owe you!” Chaerin screamed at him.

GD only stared at her as if his soul just left him. “You want to leave?” he asked softly.

“Yes, I just can’t wait to leave and start a new life,” she said trying to remain calm.

“Then leave,” he finally said as he turned his back and walked away. A tear rolled down his eye as he brushed it off quickly.

Chaerin stayed rooted to her place. She didn’t expect him to say that and it hurts more than ever. She wiped her tears trying to stay strong.

Chapter 12

Part 3

Chaerin’s brother Jung Woo was getting water from the fridge when someone knocked on the door. His heart suddenly tightened thinking that no one may be up at this hour. Praying it wasn’t those loan sharks hunting for revenge he slowly moved to the door.

“Who’s there?” he asked.

“Oppa it’s me,”

At the sound of his sister’s voice he immediately opened the door.

“Chaerin-ah, what are you doing here?” he asked as she went in.

“Oppa, can we just talk about this some other time. I’m tired,” she said walking in her room and gently shutting the door.

Their mother went out of her room, apparently, she had just woke up from the sounds. "Jung Woo, was that your sister that I just heard?” she asked in a concerned tone.

“Yeah, I think she’s having a bad day, stress from work perhaps?” he looked at his mother who is as confused as he is.

The morning came quickly as Chaerin got up early. She has somehow been accustomed to getting up at that hour since GD would be having his breakfast. But today she only stared blankly in space leaning back on to the wall. She slept for only a few hours since her usual nightmares kept her awake. At the sound of her mother’s voice calling on to her gently for breakfast Chaerin felt like she jumped back to reality. She breathed deeply and finally got up.

GD sat down at the dining table looking at a loss. From across the dining area he could see Chaerin’s room. He didn’t sleep much last night since he only looked up the ceiling of his massive bedroom. It seems that he was still unable to comprehend what just happened last night. Moreover, his phone kept ringing all night but he’s mind wandered off somewhere. After a few hours he finally snapped out of it and slowly got up to eat breakfast outside.

“Are you sure you’re okay?” Min Hee asked as she and Chaerin walked.

“Of course, I’m totally fine, why?”

“Well, you treated me out to lunch and then right now you’re accompanying me deliver food,” Min Hee said raising a plastic full of paper containers. Chaerin offered to help her deliver meals earlier.

“So? Can’t I treat my close friend to lunch and help her out? You’ve done so much for me and I just wanted to repay all that,” Chaerin said smiling at her.

Min Hee stopped walking and confronted Chaerin. “Hey, I know we’ve only known each other for a couple of months but I can feel if there is something wrong,” she said in a serious tone.

“Unnie, I’m really alright. I’m not working anymore in that stress-free environment so I can just relax. And besides, my work at the bar is really something I love doing, now shall we?” she ended quickly and continued walking while Min Hee shook her head and followed her.

“Sir, here’s your coffee,” So Ra said as she placed the coffee cup at GD’s table. “And also you’re interview with GQ magazine is scheduled on Thursday. I’ve already called on the stylists and designers,” So Ra continued on as she placed the papers on his table. She noticed a white resignation letter at the center of his table and realized who it is from. GD on the other hand was sitting at his desk staring outside at the blue sky. He has been like that for almost the whole day not saying a word.

“Sir, you’re presence is needed downstairs,” Dong Hyun reported. Sensing that he hasn’t gotten GD’s attention he looked at So Ra who only gave him a helpless look. Deciding to give it another shot he tried again.“Sir, the media is already outside. You’re the only one missing. Sir?” This time GD looked at him and stood up heading outside his office.

Chaerin and Min Hee finally got back to the restaurant after finishing all the deliveries. They sat at the back of the counter and drank water. Min Hee looked at Chaerin and finally unable to hold back asked her again.

"Chaerin, tell me honestly, are you really okay? Coz’ you know people when they get heart-broken they shed buckets of tears, they drink alcohol, scream, and all those things broken-hearted people do. It’s normal,” she said holding both her shoulders.

“Unnie, for the 10th time, I’ll be alright, seriously. I mean we were never together and he’s getting married. It’s no use doing all those things broken-hearted people do,” Chaerin said.

“Well, you have a point but still, it’s easy healing that way. So, if ever you need to go all out or whatever, tell me okay?” she hugged Chaerin.

Breaking off from her embrace Chaerin was about to say something when the TV screen behind Min Hee caught her eye. Min Hee turned around to see what stole Chaerin’s attention. There was a news report about the Kwon International Group of Companies.

…the Kwon Group is now holding an outdoor event in memory of the former president Kwon Yong Soo and his wife Kwon Jae Hee. Today is their 19th death anniversary and friends and family have gathered at this event. Present at the event is the former president’s brother and now CEO of Kwon Group, Kwon Gun Soo and their only son fashion designer and icon, Kwon Ji Yong who is also being rumoured to hold the CEO position in a few years…

The report showed videos of the live event. There was a stage in front of the company building were the CEO is now giving his speech. Behind him GD sat at a chair, he looked out of focus clearly he had so many things on his mind, he didn’t look good. At his side sat Hye In who was sort of loving the attention from the media but Chaerin didn’t care about her. Her eyes were fixed on GD, she had been living with him long enough to know that there was something bothering him.

“Unnie, I have to go home now. I still have to help mom prepare, it’s my dad’s birthday today,” Chaerin said to Min Hee who looked at her worriedly.

“Sure, I’ll come by later after my shift,” Min Hee said knowing how important today is for Chaerin.

Chaerin walked out of the restaurant and headed to the bus stop. "I’m not his assistant anymore, why should I worry about him anyway?” Chaerin thought as she sat at the bus but her heart felt otherwise.

She finally got home and helped her mom cook. They have decided to celebrate her father’s birthday even though he was already gone. In a couple of hours her brother came home bringing a birthday cake which he bought. As they were about to finish cooking Min Hee came and greeted them. So Ra and Dong Hyun also came together bringing wine and fruits. The night ended with Min Hee and Jung Woo exchanging numbers and everybody going home happy. (Chaerin had to pull her brother back inside since he seemed to be stuck at the door watching Min Hee go).

GD held a bottle of beer as he made his way inside a bar. The music was blasting loudly and a mass of bodies swayed and danced to the music. He finally reached the center of the bar as people danced around him. Drinking the beer in his hands he looked around until a woman came near him seductively placing her hands around GD who remained emotionless. She whispered something to him but he couldn’t hear anything. He couldn’t hear anything at all because the only thing he heard was Chaerin’s voice and the words she said the other night.

Hours went by as the clock read 1am. GD got home slowly walking inside his now messy home. Drinking another bottle of beer he went to Chaerin’s room and opened the door gently. He’s whole body felt numb as the realization finally sunk in. She was gone.

Chaerin twisted and turned on her bed. She couldn’t sleep other than the nightmares that may come later GD’s face on the news troubled her mind. His words at Jejudo kept coming back to her. She sat at the side of her bed not knowing what to do until she instinctively got up, changed her clothes and quietly went outside. She hailed a taxi and gave the driver directions. Arriving at her destination she walked a couple more blocks until she reached GD’s villa. She stood outside for almost an hour.

“I didn’t mean to say those things, I actually feel better when I’m with you. Right now I just want to hug you and ask if you’re okay but the reality is I can’t be with you. I can only go as far as this,” Chaerin said softly, tears streaming down her face which she wiped by the back of her hand. Slowly she turned to leave when sounds of glasses breaking came from inside the house. Without even thinking she ran inside to find the house in the worst condition. Everything was upside down glasses, frames and breakable stuff are all in the floor broken and shattered. She slowly went upstairs thinking that someone might have broken in the house and GD might be hurt. Opening the door of his room she found him sitting on the floor at the foot of the bed.

“Kwon Ji Yong,” she called gently as she went near him that was when she noticed his knuckles were bleeding. At the sound of her voice he looked up at her slowly.

“Are you here to laugh at me Chaerin?” he said sounding weak and vulnerable. “The proud and arrogant Kwon Ji Yong or Gdragon as they call me is looking like a fool right now. I’m rich everybody wishes to be in my shoes but would they still want to be me if they knew how lonely and miserable my life really is?” he said laughing sarcastically. “Today is the day my parents left me and they keep on rubbing it on my face every year making it look like some public stunt. I tried to hurt myself physically to forget but the pain inside is stronger than I thought,” he paused for awhile and stood up almost tripping as Chaerin helped him but then he brushed her hand away from him.

“Why are you still here Chaerin? Aren’t you just like all of them? Telling lies! Leaving at a time when I needed you the most! Leaving when I’ve asked you to stay by my side!” he yelled at her as he threw another bottle of beer.

“When did you ever ask…“she stopped as she realized that it was what he said back in Jejudo, the night he came at her room.

“I can’t blame you though. Who would like to stay beside someone like me? You did the right thing… leaving. Just go,” GD said softly as he turned around to open another bottle. He was about to drink it when warm arms embraced him from behind. He could hear her sob behind him.

Chaerin’s mind went blank. She didn’t realize what she was doing until only after a few seconds. Flustered, she released him immediately also realizing that her tears had reached his shirt. She took a few steps back confused between leaving out of embarrassment and wanting to stay with him. She tried to leave but then GD got hold of her and pulled her to him, embracing her tightly. Embracing him back she sunk into his arms until all went black.

GD lay down on the bed watching Chaerin sleep peacefully beside him. He gently ran his hands through her face. He smiled as he remembered her fainting after a few minutes in his arms. She was crying so hard earlier that the wave emotions must have been too much on her. He was about to get up and get something when he heard her murmur. She seemed to be having a nightmare as he head shook left and right and her tears fell slowly.

“Appa…” GD heard her say.

“Chaerin,” he said trying to wake her up gently. She finally opened her eyes and sat up calling her father’s name. She wiped her tears and breathed deeply.

GD embraced her and whispered softly into her ear. “It’s okay. I’m right here,”

Chaerin closed her eyes as she lay on his chest feeling much better.

Chapter 13

Stretching and turning on the bed, Chaerin woke up into the bright sunshine. Her eyes travelled from the black curtains to the black comfortable bed sheets.

“Since when did we have these?” it took her a few seconds to think then she sat up straight and finally came to comprehend where she really was. Getting down the bed which was 5x bigger than her small bed back at home she noticed that the mess she saw yesterday has all been cleaned. The house is now back to its normal shine. Without a sound Chaerin crept out of the room and down the grand staircase. She paced back and forth for a few moments not knowing what to do. Everything last night did seem real after all but she still had that fear. Ever since her father died she felt that everything she loved and will love will be taken away from her.

Getting dizzy pacing around she sat at the foot of the stairs when a delicious smell coming from the kitchen made her feel hungry. She wondered if GD got a new chef since she left. Walking to the kitchen she was surprised to see that it wasn't a chef but GD himself cooking. The table was already prepared with everything in place. It was almost 10am which is the time he usually arrives at his office but there he was busy cooking.

Walking closer to GD she almost hesitated but then went on and tried to tap him on the back. However, she thought not to since he looked dead serious on his cooking. She stared on at him until she spoke up,

“Sir, do you want me to help you?” she asked.

“Yeah, stand right here and stir,” he said giving the ladle. Chaerin took over what he was doing as he stood closely behind her. He was too close that she could feel his breath at the back of her neck.

“How long do I have to do this?” she asked again feeling really awkward about having him closely behind her.

“A bit longer,” he said closely that it was almost like a whisper which sent goosebumps all over Chaerin’s body. Thankfully, she wore a sweater because if not he would have easily seen it. Plus, it was rare that he spoke that tenderly. GD then reached for the salt and put some on the pot. As he did this his body pressed forward unto Chaerin’s. With his other hand he took hold of her hand holding the ladle and stirred it a bit. It looked like he was unintentionally hugging her making Chaerin’s heart beat in an insane rate.

Chaerin immediately released her hand from him and made a lame excuse to go get something. She moved away from him but he held her arm to stop her. He then pulled her strongly to him and kissed her lips. Placing his arms around her with one hand on the back of her head, making sure she won’t go anywhere. Attempting to free herself by pushing him away but to no avail. Her protests muffled by his deep kiss. Finally she gave up as she gently kissed him back her arms slowly embracing him as well (FYI: the stove isn’t even open. GD finished cooking 10 minutes ago).

“Min Hee, what’s the emergency?” So Ra said as she came towards her cousin.

“Chaerin’s missing,” she replied checking her phone again for the thousandth time.

“What? When? How?” So Ra asked, quickly starting to panic as well.

“Her brother called this earlier. Chaerin wasn’t on her bed this morning and she didn’t bring her phone with her,”

“Maybe she just went out for a walk or something,”So Ra suggested

“It’s not like Chaerin to vanish without telling anyone where she’s going,” Min Hee said sighing endlessly.

“Okay let’s calm ourselves down, so, should we call the police?” So Ra said as Dong Hyun came by.

“What’s going on here? You guys look like you need some help,” Dong Hyun said in his usual bright smile.

“Chaerin is nowhere to be found,” So Ra told him while Min Hee told him the rest of the details.

“She’s missing too? I can’t believe this,” Dong Hyun muttered.

“Why who else is missing?” Min Hee asked.

“Our boss, he has an interview for a magazine right later this afternoon and a couple of important meetings to attend but I guess we’ll have to reschedule all of it. His uncle is really going to be mad if he finds out,” So Ra said shaking her head.

“Oh then I guess that narrows our search,” Min Hee said looking relieved as So Ra and Dong Hyun looked at her with confused looks.

Just at that moment Min Hee’s phone rang. She picked it up seeing it was from Jung Woo. They talked for awhile before Min Hee nodded and closed her phone.

“Was that Chaerin’s brother? What did he say?” So Ra asked eagerly.

“Yup, they know now where Chaerin is… She’s with your boss,” Min Hee answered not really surprised.

“I’ll come back, I promise!” Chaerin said over and over again. GD was really serious on not letting her go anywhere as he stood in front of the door.

“You’ll stay with me today! I already called your mother, Chaerin,” GD retorted.

“You did? What did she say?” she asked curiously. For 30 minutes she has almost done everything just to convince him to let her go. Massaged him, begged cutely by calling him oppa, sang, hugged him, kissed him, but he only enjoyed all of it.

“She said yes,”

“That’s it? She’s not mad at me for leaving without a word?” she asked again.

No, why would she be mad? She better get used to this. I told her that you are working,” he said in his usual emotionless tone, something she missed when they were apart.

“Well, that solves my first problem but… I still have to go home,” she said making GD look at her darkly.

“What more do you need? It’s not like you’ll go hungry here, you can watch the TV, I even bought you a piano and a now a laptop, you don’t even have to work at all,” he said as he pulled her gently away from the door.

“Wait, you bought me a laptop?”

“Yeah, over there,” he said pointing over to the box at the sofa.

“You didn’t have to. Anyway, as you can see I only brought myself here. I’ll just go home and take my clothes,”

“You don’t like the laptop? I guess I have to call and replace it with another one. What color do you like?” he asked as he grabbed his phone.

“Didn’t you just hear the rest of what I said? I don’t have extra clothes and all my other stuff. Oppa just let me go. I’ll be back in an hour or less,” she pleaded again.

GD looked at her for a few moments before taking her hand and walking out the door. “Let’s go shopping then,”he said as he started his car before Chaerin could protest again.

They stopped at a luxurious mall and entered a shop. GD went straight to the manager and talked to her for awhile. All the time he held Chaerin’s hand dragging her here and there. The shop’s employees recognizing GD as one of their VIP customers approached them and extended their services by presenting their newest products.

“Oppa, I have my own clothes. I really don’t need any of--- Wahh…” Chaerin gushed as her eyes landed on the cute pair of shoes in front of her.

“Can I see that one?” GD quickly said as the sales lady gave it immediately to him.

“Ah no! I mean I don’t like it,” Chaerin quickly said trying to divert GD’s attention and head out of the shop but he really wasn’t letting it go. Making her sit down on the couch he himself took off her shoes and put the cute pair of shoes on her.

“It’s beautiful. I’ll be taking this,” he said before standing up. “I’ll look for an outfit that’ll go perfectly with it,” he continued as Chaerin only sighed at him.

“If you’re not going to pick anything then I’ll just buy the whole department store,” he said irritatingly leaving Chaerin with no choice. They have been walking around the whole mall yet all Chaerin wanted was to stop him from buying anything for her.

After a few hours Chaerin’s whole simple outfit was changed into a stylish dress paired with matching accessories and equally stylish shoes. On the other hand, GD bought clothes for himself as well making sure it would go perfect with Chaerin’s dress.

“I’m serious, stop buying,” Chaerin said as GD came behind her. He looked at her through the mirror satisfied. She no longer looked like a mere ordinary girl. Her good looks emphasized by the stylish outfit.

“You look really lovely,” he said placing his arms around her and kissed her shoulder. “This could actually be my new hobby,” he smiled at her.

“You mean turning me into your own Barbie doll?” she said laughing. As she turned around she was surprised to see so many shopping bags. “Are these ours?” she asked in disbelief.

“Yeah, actually I asked them to take the others to the car,” GD said as if it was just a normal thing.

“Others? You mean there is more?” she cried out as GD only dragged her out of the shop to eat.

Hye In walked as she talked over the phone while her friends walked beside her all of them carrying shopping bags. They were busy chatting about the latest fashion and boys when one of her friends called her attention.

“Hye In, isn’t that Kwon Ji Yong?” her friend said to her pointing over to a French restaurant.

“Who is that girl he is with? Have you guys broken up?” her other friend asked raising her eyebrow.

"Of course not!" Closing her phone Hye In looked at the happy couple in disbelief. GD smiled sweetly at Chaerin before handing to her a red box which contained a diamond necklace. Chaerin remained speechless as GD himself placed it on her neck. It didn’t end there as GD took her hand and asked her to dance with him while a live band played on the side. They swayed in each other’s arms before GD kissed her once more.

Furious, Hye In immediately went over to the restaurant but was blocked by the staff.

“I’m sorry maam the whole place has been reserved for the night but if you’d like you can order for take out,” the staff said politely.

“What?! My fiancée is inside with another woman I have the right to go inside!” she exclaimed but the staff remained strict on not letting her in. She was beginning to create a scene so her friends pulled her away as she threatened the staff.

Chaerin sat on her own room back at GD’s villa as she looked at all the shopping bags which filled almost half of the room. Slowly opening them one by one and placed them on her closet. There were also different kinds of perfume, toothbrush, toothpaste, a shampoo which GD said he loved the scent, clothes for everyday use, sleeping and special occasions. Chaerin shook her head on the thought of GD spending this much on her. She suddenly had the feeling that she had just became his wife. Sifting through the clothes she came upon a small black shopping bag. Opening it she was shocked to find a very revealing, red lacy undergarment (FYI: Victoria Secret brand, almost transparent lacy underwear).

“There must be a mistake!” she said in shock. Earlier she herself insisted that she will buy her own undergarments so she knew if she bought something like that. “That perverted Kwon Ji Yong!” she said out loud as she stormed out of her room to look for him. Upstairs he was getting ready to sleep when Chaerin stormed inside and jumped on his bed to beat him with a pillow. He pulled her down with him now admitting that he bought them.

“Just sleep here,” he said tenderly while cuddling her when she tried to go.

“No way, not after buying those… ahhh I don’t know,” she said but then just gave in as she slowly drifted to sleep in his arms assured that she won’t be bothered by those nightmares again.

“Chaerin, saranghae,”

“Oppa, nadu saranghaeyo,”

“Sir, your suspicions have been confirmed. Vice-president Ji Yong is together with Lee Chaerin, Lee Hyun Woo’s daughter. She’s actually been working as the VP Ji Yong’s personal assistant and is currently staying at his villa. She was also the girl who sang at the CIELO event,” an assistant wearing a black suit and tie reported to the CEO who sat behind his table rubbing his temples.

GD’s uncle held numerous pictures of Chaerin GD having fun with the kids on Jejudo. There were also pictures from their date earlier and some of Chaerin’s files on his desk. He looked at them darkly before dismissing his assistant. He then crumpled a picture of them in his hands before angrily throwing it on the floor.

Chapter 14
Final Chapter

Part 1

Chaerin and GD walked inside the company building. They had just arrived and are now gearing up for the work ahead. GD’s staff scampered as they prepare for the vice-president. Knowing that he’s very demanding and always in a dark mood they made sure that everything will be perfect when he comes. They all waited for the elevator to sound and held in their breath. In a few seconds, GD walked in with his usual stylish suit and strong presence.

“Good morning,” he said as he walked by. Before entering his office he passed by Chaerin’s table and wiped the surface with one of his fingers. He frowned a bit before calling a janitor to clean the whole area. “I want it perfectly cleaned, not a single dust,” he reminded arranging a few papers on her table before entering his office.

“Did the vice-president just say good morning and enter without a sarcastic remark? He even fixed his assistants table,” A female employee whispered to her co-worker.

"I think he caught some virus or something," her co-worker replied.

After a couple of minutes Chaerin came and went over her desk. “Chaerin!” So Ra called excitedly as she saw her.

“Unnie,” Chaerin got up and hugged So Ra.

So you’re not resigning anymore?”

“No, I think I might work here for a very long time,” she laughed as So Ra hugged her again overjoyed to see her.

“Hey, you’ve let your hair down today. I thought you hated it like that,”

“Well, I think it’s better like that,” Chaerin said thinking about how GD annoyingly telling her over and over to do so this morning.

“It’s good you came back. Things here are getting gloomy without you. By the way, the vice-president already entered his office. Do you know that he had your table cleaned awhile ago?”

“He did?” she said looking down her desk. “I told him not to be obvious about us,” she whispered.

“What?” So Ra asked hearing Chaerin mumble about something.

“Ah-- I said it was really kind of him to do that. I think I should go and make him coffee now,” Chaerin said quickly as she stood up and went to make coffee. She had just begun making the vice-president’s coffee when Dong Hyun came to her.

“Chaerin-ah, there you are! The vice-president wants to see you, IMMEDIATELY,” he stressed out.

“But I’m still making his coffee. I’ll be there in a few minutes,” she said.

“He also told me to tell you not make coffee anymore and just get in there immediately. I think it’s some emergency,” he said almost begging her since GD strictly demanded it.

“Okay, okay, I’ll go,”

Entering GD’s office she saw him standing up, arms crossed with a serious expression. As soon as he saw Chaerin, he lightly smiled.

“You called for me. What’s wrong?” she asked a hint of concern in her voice.

GD was silent for awhile before he spoke. “Could you peel this for me?” he said seriously as he held an apple.

“What?! You had everyone in panic looking for me just so that I could go peel that apple? Oppa~,” she sighed as he pulled her close and embraced her.

“I missed you,” he said hugging her tightly.

“We’ve only been apart for 30 minutes,” she replied pulling away from him. Not wanting to let go just yet he held her face with both his hands and kissed her lips. She kissed him back but then realized that they were in the office.

“Oppa! We can’t be like this, somebody might just enter and see us!” she said pushing him away.

“This is officially a part of your job now,”

“As a girlfriend, yes but as your assistant, definitely not,”

“But you are my girlfriend and my assistant,” he said making her stop and think.

“Uh, I don’t know anymore,” she said before they ended up laughing. He pulled her close to him again and hugged her tightly. “Just let it be,” he whispered as she hugged him back, giving up.

So Ra held important papers in her hands which needed GD’s approval. She has only slightly opened the door to his office when she heard Chaerin and GD.

“Don’t move!” GD demanded.

“But it hurts! Just do it gently,” Chaerin complained.

“I know, it’s only normal so just bear with it,” he said, this time in a tender tone.

“Wait! Wait! Stop!”

“What is it now?! Ah just don’t move, bear with it and it’ll all be over before you know it!!” GD said now getting impatient. “Okay, don’t stall, I’ll do it now,” GD said as they both fell quiet.

“Ah! Stop! Ouch!!!” Chaerin said out loud. “I told you to do it gently!”

“Alright, alright, I’m sorry. See, It’s over now,” GD said, calming her down.

So Ra closed back the door quietly, her mouth dropped open unable to believe what she just heard. She turned around immediately hearing someone come up behind her.

“So Ra-ssi, is the vice-president busy? We’re here to give him the financial reports,” 2 employees asked.

“Y-yes. The vice-president is in n-no mood to… to see anyone right now. Just come back after a few hours and tell everyone not to bother him,” So Ra stuttered, still not getting over what she just found out.

“What’s up with you? Are you okay?” Dong Hyun said coming close to her. “I need to give this to the vice-president,” he continued trying to enter the office.

“No!” So Ra immediately said, stopping him. "If you want to get fired then go inside,” she said. “Oh, god. I didn’t hear a thing,” she sighed shaking her head before covering her face with both hands and running away.

“Why what’s wrong?” Dong Hyun said, concerned, following her.

“How can you be so careless?” GD said as he placed the band-aid on Chaerin’s finger. She was peeling the apple when she accidently cut her finger. He has been trying to put some ointment on it but it took them almost an hour because of Chaerin who couldn't stand the pain. He smiled thinking of how innocent & vulnerable she can be. “You walk around with your head up like you can take on any storm but then you break down because of a small cut,”

“It’s not like I cut myself every day,” Chaerin defended.

“Let’s eat outside?” GD asked changing the topic seeing that it’s already lunch break.

“Eat? Here have some apples,” Chaerin said jokingly as GD chuckled.

They went both went out and ate at some fancy restaurant which GD insisted they go to. They talked happily as they enjoyed the food and each other’s company.

“So what’s the matter this time?” Min Hee said coming up to So Ra and Dong Hyun.

“If there is anything you know about Chaerin and our vice-president, you better start telling us right now because I keep having this feeling that there is something between them,” So Ra said to her cousin.

“Well, that’s because there really is something between them,”Min hee concluded

“So it’s true?” Dong Hyun blurted out. “But isn’t he engaged to Yoon Hye In?”

“Okay guys, since the whole world already knows then I guess I better tell you,” Min Hee sighed.

“But aren’t we the only ones who know about this?” So Ra said confused with what she’s saying.

“You guys don’t know yet?” Min Hee asked in disbelief. “This has just been out in the internet a couple of hours ago,” Min Hee showed them her laptop which showed various pictures of GD and Chaerin together. “I don’t know who released these pictures but it’ll be a matter of hours before it will be published in tomorrow’s papers and it’ll mean trouble for them both,”

“But I don’t understand, I mean Chaerin and our vice-president weren’t in good terms from the very beginning. Since when have they been dating?” So Ra asked.

“You know dear cousin, love can work in a lot of ways and sometimes it’s just right there but you’re too busy bickering with each other to see it,” she said eyeing them both.

“Why are you looking at us like that? We’re not…you know,” Dong Hyun said looking away from So Ra who also looked away in a different direction.

“Anyways, when are we going to tell them?” So Ra said as they all thought deeply on what to do.

Chaerin and GD went back to the office talking about something about music when GD stopped seeing that somebody was already inside his office.

“Ji Yong,” his Uncle said as he stood near his desk holding a glass of alcohol with a stern look.

They both bowed to him in respect. Chaerin looked at GD and prepared to excuse herself and leave but GD held her hand to stop her from leaving. He was still looking directly at his uncle now confident and brave.

“Uncle, this is Lee Chaerin, the woman I’m going to marry,” he said directly as Chaerin looked at him in surprise.

Final Chapter

Part 2

Chaerin remained stunned with his words. There he was standing with his head held high proudly telling his uncle, the CEO of their company that she was the woman he wanted to marry. It was then that it reality started sinking in. It’s not like they can keep hiding it from everybody. Somehow, it was now starting to get complicated.

“Chaerin, you’ve grown,” his uncle finally spoke after GD’s direct confession. He eyed Chaerin who looked at him puzzled.

“I… guess, sir,” she said hesitantly thinking that she must have looked younger during the CIELO event with all the make-up.

The CEO walked closer to them taking off his eyeglass and taking out something from his pocket. He then handed a lollipop over to Chaerin. “Here, want some candy?” he’s words suddenly opened a memory embedded deep within her several years ago.

7 years ago sixteen year old Chaerin just got home from school. It was late in the afternoon as she hurriedly searched for her dad to show him a trophy she won from their school’s singing contest. Hearing his voice inside their grand library she rushed inside not expecting to see hear him arguing with somebody. She could not see the person’s face because he had his back facing her and whatever they were talking about it wasn’t heading to a good direction.

“His intentions are pure. You don’t have to punish him for doing something that will make him happy,”Chaerin heard her father say.

“I am his uncle and you don’t have to tell me what to do. I know what is best for him. I will definitely not tolerate this kind of behaviour,”

“He’s 18 years old now. He already has a say on how he wants in life. I’m asking you to understand and talk to him rather than put your greedy ambitions first,”

“You keep out of this, Hyun Woo! Why don’t you stop meddling with everything that has to do with our family?”

“I owe your father for sending me to school and your brother was the closest friend I ever had. Your family is the only family I ever known after my parents died. I understand what that boy is going through and your approach towards life isn’t helping him!”

“Right, how could I not forget the day my father introduced you to our family. Years later you married the woman I liked and may I just remind you that you are also the reason why that boy’s parents didn’t get a chance to see their son grow into a great man!”

“That was an accident I—Chaerin-ah,” Her father cut his sentence off as he saw her.

“Appa, I didn’t mean to… I’m sorry,” she said tightly clutching the award she wanted to show him. Her father seldom yelled at home which is why seeing him like that scared her.

“Sweetheart, we are… just having a healthy debate. Did you win the contest? I knew you’d make it!” he said walking over to Chaerin, his voice suddenly changing into a gentler tone.

“Yes, I did,” she said now smiling. The man her father was debating with turned around to look at her.

“Hi Chaerin, you’re father is right we’re always like this. Nice to meet you,”

“Nice to meet you too,” Chaerin said, politely bowing as a sign of respect. He then took off his eyeglasses and took something from his pocket. It was a lollipop, her favorite kind.

“You look so much like your mother. Here, have some candy,” Chaerin took it and thanked him as he touched her cheek and smiled at her before looking back at her father. He finally took his leave and Chaerin never saw him again until today.

“We finally meet again. I hope you still remembered me,”

“I remember now. You were my dad’s friend,”

“Actually, you’re dad and I have never been friends. In fact he’s actually my biggest rival and winning feels really good too bad he didn’t last long I was only starting to have fun,”
Taken a back with what he said Chaerin couldn’t contain it inside any longer. This man in front of her was shamelessly insulting the memory of her father.

“Uncle!” GD started.

“How dare you,” Chaerin spoke still calm but deep inside she was in the brink of slapping his face. Her eyes were filled with anger as the tears started to fall. “You were the one who destroyed my father’s reputation and took our company,”

“Yes I did. Now, I didn’t think you’d be working in my company. Honestly, since I still have little sympathy left I am willing to let you work here---,”

“No, I won’t work for you. And if you thought you won then I should tell you. You didn’t win. What you did only made me and my family stronger. We got through the storm you yourself made and we are very happy being together even though our house is small and all we have are the simple things. Well, how about you? I bet you sleep with all your money and business papers but in the end you’re still…alone. I pity you, I really do. My dad, he lived a happy life and died a happy man beside the people he loved and loves him. He is a true winner. So go ahead and celebrate… by yourself. I just hope that one day you’ll go bump your head and realize how lonely and miserable you're life actually is. By the way, I want you to remember who I am, I am Lee Chaerin, Lee Hyun Woo’s daughter and that I am proud of,” she said holding her head up high and walking out of the office. She felt so many emotions but the feeling of happiness and relief stood out the most.

For many years she has been holding back from all those people who step on her and her family but now she has finally stopped running. Tears of joy started falling as she wiped it all away. Walking out of the building the sun shone brightly bathing her in all its glory. Taking in a deep breath of fresh air she felt like a new person, stronger and unbreakable.

As Chaerin left the office GD’s uncle sipped some whiskey. Although he acted undaunted with what she said he’s composure changed a bit. He was obviously mad. GD started to follow Chaerin when he spoke.

“Once you walk out that door you’ll lose everything have. The news of your affair with that girl will be out tomorrow. It will destroy all our upcoming contracts with Yoon Hye In’s father but if you stay I’ll stop the news from breaking out. Tell me Ji Yong what will it be? All you're hard work and inheritance or that lowly woman?”

“Uncle, do you really want me to answer that question? Cause’ it’s not really that difficult to decide. I’m done,” with this GD turned around and walked away. He could hear a sound of glass breaking from inside the office but he didn’t care. Finally, he was free from everything that was holding him back from living the life he wanted. He smiled as he started running outside the building where Chaerin stood.

“Oppa,”

“Chaerin, I ‘m not a vice-president anymore. I gave everything up,”

“But oppa, all you’ve worked for, you can’t throw that all away just because of me and besides if you’ll be giving up everything then you’re life…“

“I don’t care. You went through something like this as well and you turned out okay so I’ll be able survive this one too,”

“So it’s true you knew who I was from the very beginning. That was why you hired me immediately in the first place. Oppa, why’d you lie to me?”

“I only tried to protect you Chaerin… to right everything my uncle did to you and your family. I am sorry,”

“Still, you lied to me. How am I supposed to trust you now?”

“I lied to keep you by my side. I was afraid that I’d lose you again, that you’d leave if you knew about my uncle… I was stupid… Chaerin please…” he said as tears ran down his face.

“Oppa, the lying, I can forgive you but to sacrifice your future for me. I don’t think I can live with that. We should just…”

“No! I won’t let this be. I’ve waited for you this long. I won’t let us be apart, not anymore. Being with you…is my future. Chaerin, I love you,” he said stopping her from turning away and locking her in his embrace.

“Oppa, I love you too,” she replied embracing him back.

After their resignation they decided to stay together. GD knelt, cried and begged in front of Chaerin’s mother who immediately agreed to their happiness. GD never got to work at another company since his uncle blocked his applications to all companies but this never put him down as he worked at the same bar as a bartender where Chaerin sings every night to (he would be the first to clap his hands and cheer loudly which would only earn him a dark look from the manager). He also took other part-time jobs and work diligently thinking of Chaerin. Adjusting to the ordinary lifestyle was hard. He’d get sick and his body ached every night but Chaerin’s tender hugs and kisses would always be like medicine, she’d come every day to his small rented apartment and cook for him like she always did. Chaerin on the other hand finally gave in to the talent scout’s calls and with GD insisting on the side she auditioned for YG entertainment which took her in immediately. In 2 years she became a singer while GD finally put up his own restaurant naming it CIELO.

One early evening she had just finished from recording when she received a message from GD telling her to head immediately down his restaurant for an emergency. She quickly left and hurried over to find the restaurant empty and dark. She looked around frantically for Ji Yong, afraid that some burglar had entered the restaurant and harmed GD. Turning on the lights she was surprised to see the whole place covered with rose petals and there he was holding a small box, something he had once tried to give her. Kneeling down, he opened the box showing the custom-made diamond ring he himself designed.

“Chaerin-ah, will you marry me?”

“…….Yes,

Ji Yong’s Love

I remembered seeing her at my parent’s funeral. I was crying hard and no one could console me until she came handing out a caramel flavoured lollipop. Looking up I saw a cute young girl. She innocently asked me what was making me cry. I only looked at her when her father came and told her that they had to go. She waved at me telling me that she will be back later. I waited but she never came back.

Years passed but that memory filled my dreams every night. That image of innocence never left my mind and I vowed to find her. My intention was to thank her and get to know her better since she the last thing my parents wanted for me was to be close to her. I wanted to fulfil that wish they had for me so as I reached high school I began to look for her but the only thing I have was her name, Chaerin.

One day I got home, my uncle was sitting at the living room with this girl. She looked like she came from a rich family & talked highly of herself. It was then that my uncle told me that she was the daughter of one of the biggest companies in South Korea. He wanted her for me but I already told him that my heart belonged to Chaerin. That time it wasn't really what I felt. I only used it as an excuse to not date the girl he wanted for me, Yoon Hye In. My decision only angered my uncle but I stuck to that excuse. He then gave me an option. He’d tell me where Chaerin was if I’d agree to marry Hye In in the future. Immediately I agreed, not knowing exactly if it was a good thing or bad thing. After my answer he gave me a picture of Chaerin. I was surprised to see such a pretty young girl and I never got that image of her off my mind. All this time I saw her as the little girl giving me a lollipop but now she has grown I’m seeing her differently. I dated Hye In but Chaerin was always in my mind. I wanted so badly to know how she talked, laughed, what her favourites are. I wanted to see her.

I found out her exact address in Japan through a private investigator which I hired without my uncle’s knowledge. Using the money I saved for half a year I secretly left for Japan leaving a note that I would be having a school outing. I arrived at Japan and stayed at a friend’s place. My plan was to see her, thank her for the lollipop and build a lasting friendship but that changed when I met her.

I didn’t fully understand Japanese which got me in a fight. Although I knew self-defence I was greatly outnumbered so I had no choice but to run. I knew that meeting Chaerin in that state won’t really be a good first impression. My face was bleeding and bruised so I bought a face mask which people wear whenever they had flu. I looked like a thief with my get up, I wore a hooded jacket, cap, glasses and a face mask. Walking to her address I finally found her house. It was big and grand. They owned dozens of cars and had a huge garden. I stood in front of the gate not sure if I should ring the bell or wait outside for her. Their body guard saw me and I asked if she was at home. He told me that she was still at school.

I thought of just giving up for today and head back to my friend’s place since the weather was really chilly. Turning around I walked back, as I quickly turned to a corner I suddenly bumped into someone. The impact was strong that it both sent us falling in opposite directions. It was then that I realized that it was a girl. She groaned in pain and I immediately helped her up.

“I’m so sorry. My mind was pre-occupied…” I said in English hoping she’d understand me which she did. She looked up at me and I was stunned to see her. It was her, Chaerin. She was in pigtails. She wore a thick white jacket, underneath a short black uniform skirt and black boots.

“No, it was my fault I was running. I should have—“ she stopped as she saw the object she was holding a few minutes ago lying on the floor broken. “My trophy!”she cried out as she picked it up gently. I helped her while apologizing so many times. I felt really guilty as I tried to put it back together while she looked on.

“Wait, I’ll go buy glue,” I told her as I crossed the street to find a store. She followed me as I entered a small shop. I found one and bought it immediately before she could offer her own money. We headed outside the shop and sat at a bench trying to attach the broken pieces. I grunted as I pressed the pieces together not realizing that I was already speaking in Korean, frustrated.

“You’re Korean?” she asked now speaking in Korean and smiling brightly. I was surprised and happy that she could speak my language. It was then that we started chatting about random stuff. We laughed and talked as we walked. “Do you want some candy?” She asked digging out a lollipop from her pocket.

"Sure",I said taking the lollipop, the exact same one she gave me when we were kids. Looking back at the trophy I was holding, I found out that she was a champion at a singing competition.

“Actually that was the reason why I was running. I wanted to tell my father about it,” she said smiling shyly. She looked prettier like that.

“I’m sure he’d be happy,” I said feeling happy for her as well.

“He wanted to come and watch me but he had to meet someone important today,” she said looking down.

“If only we knew each other earlier I would’ve cheered for you,” I said sincerely which made her laugh. “So… I really want to hear you sing” I said which she obliged. It was the first time I heard her sing and her voice stuck to my head as I walked her to her house. I also found out that she plays the piano.

“So, this is where I live,” she said as I gave her back the now fixed trophy. “Oh, I forgot to ask your name, I’m Chaerin by the way,” she said.

“Me? I… My name is Yong,” I didn’t know why I didn’t tell her my full name. I guess I wanted to tell her when I am nicely dressed and looking better. I knew it was a childish reason but I wanted to impress her. Here she was looking perfect in front of me and here I was looking like a street mugger to think that we own a fashion company.

“Yong? Like dragon?” she said as I nodded. “Well, Yong oppa, will I be seeing you again?” she asked eagerly. I wanted to say yes but I knew my time with her is limited and I had to go back before my uncle finds out.

“I have to go back to Korea tomorrow,” I said sadly, not wanting to leave. I liked her very much since she wasn't like all those other girls. I found out that she loved walking which is why she kept sending her driver home. She has a very artistic eye and I easily envisioned designing something for her. I thought of designing a nice pair of shoes since she confessed liking shoes. She bade me goodbye and told me to get well since I told her that I had a flu, thus, the face mask. I sadly watched her walk inside her house. I turned around and again walked back heavily when I heard her call me.

“Yong oppa,” she called coming back to me.

“Chaerin,” I said suddenly smiling although it wasn't that obvious because of the stupid face mask.

“Uhmm… I just wanted to tell you… thank you for fixing my trophy. I guess if it was somebody else they would only settle for an apology. I already owe you. If ever I become a popular singer someday don’t hesitate to come to me and I’ll be giving you free VIP tickets,” she said jokingly but then I told her that she deserves to be clapped and cheered on stage.

“You’ll be a singer. Don’t forget me when you're up there,” I kept on saying.

“Of course not, oppa, just wait if I ever I get famous and get a chance to go to Korea,”

“Sure, I’ll wait or maybe to make it easier I’ll find you,” A promise which I plan to keep.

“See you soon, oppa,” she said as she suddenly kissed me on the cheek. “That’s my promise,” she said running off quickly. I felt like my heart jumped to the sky when she did that. I went back to Seoul happily but then what waited back home was only bad news. My uncle found out about my trip to Japan and punished me by sending me to military school and yes, I did get my hair shaved off.

Years passed, I graduated from college and worked at our company. With Chaerin still on my mind I became restless, I almost gave up. I dated lots of women, slept with them but still I longed for someone like her. Until one time as I was walking down the streets looking for a decent restaurant. I had a terrible headache from partying and drinking last night. Not having that much choice I entered this plain restaurant and sat down immediately rubbing my forehead. Not knowing what to order I looked around for the waiter but he was busy with other customers. It was then that a waitress came to me. As soon as she spoke I knew that she sounded familiar. I finally looked up and there she was. I was so surprised that I didn’t know what to say so I just asked her what was their most expensive meal. I hated it that I, again, am in a bad condition. Why of all the days do we always have to meet when i am in my worst look?" I grumbled as I rubbed my head to cover my face with embarrassment.

She seemed to have noticed that I was having a hangover so she suggested a meal for my condition. It was really thoughtful of her to do that but then I knew that if I just let her off then I might not be able to talk to her again. Thinking fast I thought of acting rude in front of her although, I knew that I wasn’t really a nice guy to begin with. She seemed hurt with what I said and as I expected she apologized for it. My plan seemed to work as she even made coffee for me. I really wanted to take her home right then and there. But instead of telling her the truth I blurted out that I wanted her to resign and after that she was never off my radar. I knew that with the help of my connections I could be able to trace her as long as she is in Seoul.

To my surprise, I found out she was applying at my company so I hired her immediately. It was then at those times that I fell in love with her. I even came to the point of accidentally confessing my feelings to her when we were at Jejudo. I had to act like I didn’t remember anything in fear that she would have second thoughts and reject me. I did so many things just to have her next to me until she told me that she wanted to be with me too. It was then that I never let her out of my sight anymore.

Presently, I sipped my warm cup of coffee as I watched the customers coming in my own restaurant when my friend Dong Hyun nudged me.

“Sir Kwon, Chaerin's interview is starting right now,” he said excitedly as we both looked on the restaurant’s flat screen TV. We have already been happily married for 4 years. My restaurant has grown bigger and is now one of the classiest restaurants in Seoul. I have also put up restaurants in Europe, Japan and the U.S. While my Chaerin on the other hand, has just released her 4th album with successful results. I watched her answer the reporter’s questions wittily with her warm smile. As she was asked about her marriage she laughed shyly and said that she was very happy right now. She was also asked to give a message for me. She looked at the camera a bit embarrassed but then gave her message in between laughs.

“Oppa, I’ll be home early today. Is it okay if tonight I leave all the cooking to you? See you when I get home. Love you!” she said smiling. That made my day while some of the customers recognized me and even took my picture. So Ra almost yelled at them to stop since I already told them that it was making me uncomfortable, even though I myself was pretty famous as a designer for a clothing line I used to work for.

So Ra and Dong Hyun also resigned from the company a few years after I and Chaerin left. They have been going out for a year now (Chaerin and Min Hee caught them kissing each other at a corner of the kitchen last year). Min Hee is now married to Chaerin’s brother and has just given birth to their first child. I smiled thinking of how things are working out well for all of us when I received a text message.
